Vishwakarma Institute of Information Technology B.Tech Review By Laxmi Patil

Vishwakarma Institute of Information Technology is one of the best engineering colleges in Maharashtra. It is a sister institute of Vishwakarma Institute of Technology. VIIT is an autonomous institute established in 2002 and it is affiliated with the Savitribai Phule Pune University. VIIT has been accredited by NAAC and has received an 'A' Grade. It has been placed in Rank Band of 151-200 under the India Rankings 2018 by NIRF. The admission process is based on the MH-CET score. JEE mains scores are also considered.

I have joined the B.Tech (Information technology) course in VIIT in 2017. You can get admission through MH-CET or JEE mains score. One should score good marks in CET to be eligible for the computer science or IT branch. I always wanted to join computer science but got the IT branch based on my CET marks.

Course subjects are pretty interesting, but one should learn and practice regularly to score good marks in exams. This course is helpful to get a job. The college provides an ample amount of opportunities to final year students. Computer and IT branches have good placement record.

IT department has a total of 13 faculty members. All are well qualified. The average year of experience in teaching is 10-12 years. Most of the faculties have done masters in their respective fields and some are Ph.D holders.

Every faculty try to explain the subject in such a way that students understand it very well. Many activities are organized to make the learning process effective.

The CTPO of VIIT provides a lot of opportunities for final year students to achieve their career goals. Refreshers training program, Career guidance, and pre-placement program are conducted to make students industry-ready. Career Awareness sessions and assessment tests and Model Aptitude tests and Interviews are conducted to excel in the Recruitment process. In the new autonomy module, a semester-long internship is compulsory for final year students which help them to get industry exposure.

Some of the top companies visiting campus every year are Avaya, UBS, Atlas Copco, Siemens PLM, EQ Technologic, John Deere, Principal Global FinIQ, ZS Associates, CLSA, HSBC, MuSigma, NICE Technology, Accenture, Infosys, Cognizant, Persistent, and many more. The highest package provided in the IT branch is Rs. 12 LPA by Avaya. The average package received is Rs. 4 LPA. Every year almost 75% of students get placed in the IT branch.

The hostel facility is available for boys in campus only. For girls, there are some private hostels available outside campus in the nearby area. I will recommend living in a private hostel nearby as more good options are available.

The total hostel fees per year is about Rs. 1 lakh including mess. The mess facility is available in the college campus only. The college has one common huge canteen where you will find all types of food options. Outside campus area you will not find many food options.

The college infrastructure is pretty good and large. It has 5 different buildings for each branch. Classrooms are good enough. The college has a common library in the mechanical department. The college has many snack centers and cafes on campus. College is located in the outside city area, so fewer options for food and stores are available.

The college has one common auditorium where all functions and sessions are conducted. Medical and emergency support is provided on the campus. The playground is not that huge, but you will get a good campus life here as you will meet students from across India and some from other countries too.

Many cultural and tech fests are organized in college every year which helps students to enhance their overall personality development. Major clubs in VIIT are EDC, CEC, NSS, and many other clubs in respective departments. Technical events are perception, robocon, supra, hackathon, and SciTech. TEDx event is also organized by VIIT. First TEDx VIIT was organized on 25th March 2019.

"Gandharva" is a popular cultural festival in college where all students come together with great enthusiasm. "Aavishkar" is also one of the cultural activities. Many students from VIIT are university and zonal players and have achieved sports prizes. Lighthouse is VIIT'S annual magazine. It is beyond academics, by encouraging students to be creative with their content. Overall campus life is good in VIIT, but you should give importance to studies along with participation in other activities.
