Lourdes Matha College of Science and Technology B.Tech Review By Amal Vijay Thachancode

A batch never before never again that was indeed the tagline of our batch. If I look back the college gave me a solid foundation in my professional journey. I used to walk to the college every day as it was very near to my home. The batch had 60 persons from all parts of the state. College administration comes under a Christian management and the tech event is known as Equinox. We were the 5th batch and we were part of the batch that coined the name Equinox. As a person from science background I was very nervous to take the course firstly. But the faculties made it look natural so is the case with all of us. They say the friends we get from college will stay with us life-long. We are all still connected. The memories we had is forever. We had many departments in engineering and also had courses in MBA, MCA and hotel management. Miss Kerala was my batch mate. Some of my colleagues later took up acting. Many are now entrepreneurs, Government Servants, Bankers, Senior IT Managers and Experienced Software Engineers. We even have CEO of a leading IT Consulting company as my batch mate now. They all grown up to that level from the knowledge they got from LMCST. We had our share of laughter, cries and love from the college we all love. There are three phases that make a student a complete professional. Knowing, Doing and Being. Knowing phase essentially is learning from the academics and other resources. Doing is about applying our knowledge and making it into practice. Practice does make a man perfect. Our college helped all of us in first two phases and paved its way for the third phase that is being. Our college made us an ethical person to care about others and solve the problem of others and that way become a complete professional and a true engineer in every aspect.

The academics are very challenging. That time we came under University of Kerala and it is widely accepted that the B.Tech course in Kerala University was the toughest and it was even compared with Civil Services Exams!! The faculties were highly experienced some of them even possessed industry experience. We had the opportunity to interact with industry experts and some of the eminent scientists of our country. The faculties even work beyond regular hours to help us succeed. That is why college always had toppers. Even our faculty were influential in first ever student rocket launch. The course offered a good balance of practical learning and theoretical knowledge. We had opportunities of internship. College also offered personality development program and communication skills training.

The faculties are very passionate and compassionate. They are passionate about teaching and compassionate about helping children succeed. They work beyond working hours to make sure the students gets the idea right of the topic they teach. Who were experienced in handling children coming from any background. Most of them possess industry experience from top companies. The faculties are approachable as well. The extra classes we had made sure we all come with good marks.

The college had few industries tie ups with leading tech company running contents, quiz and other events. We also had regular industry interactions. The placement cell and placement coordinator is very active and supporting. The value added soft skills training brushed up our communication skills that also helped to get good placements. Leading companies had on campus placement drives happening in my time.

Hostels were very good with nice amenities. I was a day scholar and my friend was a hosteller. She used to ga ga about hostel food. The hostel encouraged extracurricular activities. That helped students shine in sports arena. We had good chess players, badminton players, football players and volleyball players who were mostly hostlers and state players.

The infrastructure was modern. There were buildings with slopped roof that represented a Kerala touch. The building was strong and well built and neatly maintained. The academic block was separated with sound proof walls to avoid distractions. We had AC conference halls, Computer Labs and mechanical labs. The Canteen was good which also provided internship to our hostel management students. This was a unique concept.

Our College is a vibrant diverse campus with a strong reputation for academic excellence and student life. The campus is located at the heart of Thiruvananthapuram surrounded by lush green hills even the address says it Lourdes hills. The college has a number of clubs from computer science club to dance clubs. Students and faculty are supportive of each other. If you are looking for a college that will challenge you academically, support you personally and help you grow into the best version of yourself then I highly recommend Lourdes Matha College.
