Model College Dombivli B.Com Review By Ankita Patil

Model College, Dombivli is for Commerce and Arts students. Plus, they also have professional courses for BMS, MBA and others. This college is affiliated to the University of Mumbai. It is fulfilling our educational requirements since more than three decades, and is still having excellent standards of education. The admission process is easy and the college management is commendable. It is popular amongst the residents of Dombivli and has been accredited as "A-grade" in 2006 and 2014 as well. The college management is progressive and proactive, and equal towards all students, even if the college falls under Linguistic Minority. The management follows a convenient and meticulous process for the student admission, and hence students do not face any major difficulties during the same.

I joined B.Com course because I had completed my 12th in Commerce. I wanted to make a career in back-office or Accounts operation, and that's why I joined for this course. We were given sufficient choice to select subjects as per our competency and preferences. We studied several subjects such as Law, Foundation Course, Accounts, and Economics. Yes, this course helped me to get my first job. Most of the jobs have a mandatory requirement of B.Com, and so, I enjoyed benefits.

Our faculty was experienced, knowledgeable and had a fun-loving approach towards students. The professors were strict while teaching in the classrooms, but were equally encouraging while solving doubts and during extra-curricular activities. More than 50 faculties are present in the college and they are proficient in teaching. They have more than 10-15 years of experience in teaching and all of them are post-graduated in the respective disciplines. Each faculty teaches the subject with a great degree of expertise and skill. They make us understand and love the subject, and do not simply spoon-feed us. They also provided practical examples and case studies about each concept. They help in resolving doubts and very strict when it comes to attendance. They are excellent mentors and provided career guidance too.

The college has recently established a Training and Placement Cell, and help students in seeking the best jobs of the industry. Local companies have visited the collage to grab the best human talent. Top companies looking for interns contacted our college and they were successful in the recruitment. My batch students were offered an average salary of Rs. 2 Lacs p.a. by the top companies. More than 20 percent of the students received campus placement, while others were deciding between job and higher education. One of the companies offered the highest salary package of Rs. 3 Lacs p.a. to the students and a few of them grabbed the same. We were provided interview training by out faculties, and it proved to be useful during the campus placement. Even if some students couldn't get through the campus placement, they learned a lot in the same.

There is no hostel in this college. But a student will not face any difficulty to find a comfortable place to stay as several accommodation facilities are available nearby. You can find flats at reasonable rates, PGs at affordable prices and private hostels. You can also find excellent type food options right from breakfast to dinner in the vicinity of the college. Plus, the college has a clean and sanitized canteen facility where you can find food options at decent prices. The area near Model College is safe and is occupied by educated and well-mannered families. Hence, students won't face any security threats and they will as if they are at their homes. Till date, no mishaps have been reported by the students.

The College campus is huge and has two prime buildings. It is surrounded by green trees, and the atmosphere is calm and pleasant. Though the campus is not attractive or lavish, we found it comfortable and easy to access. The classrooms are spacious and accommodate 100s of students at a time. The library is well-equipped with books and has a convenient borrowing and return facility. The computer labs are upgraded with latest technology and there is an open space to conduct events. The cafeteria is clean and serves healthy food, and the playground is decent. The college also has an on-call medical support staff and a counselor for emotional health needs. Though I was not a Science student, I have talked to my friends and they say that the laboratory is also up-to-date.

The campus life in college was great, and we had a lot of fun along with studies. The college has been able to maintain a balance between academic and campus lives for its students. It conducts regular extra-curricular activities, sports day and academic competitions for students. I have participated in a few of them, and the faculties have always helped in improving our skills and abilities. I have also participated in inter-college competitions and festivals, and our collage has encouraged us all to do so. Apart from the regular competitions, our college also conducts festivals, annual gatherings, Annual Sports Day, and several cultural events. Since it is a Linguistic Minority institution, we had the opportunity of watching beautiful programs of classical and South Indian dance.
