KV Pendharkar College of Arts Science and Commerce B.A Review By Indrajit Rana

K.V. Pendharkar College is the pride of Thane. If people for Mumbai have their colleges to boast, even Thanekars have a state-of-the art college that is one of the best. The college has great facilities and has given me ample time and opportunities to vouch for other interests as well. The weaker students like me have been taken care of and there was no discrimination in the college. All these reasons made K.V. Pendharkar as my first choice college. I did 12th from commerce stream but took admission in B.A. in this college. B.A. may not as popular course from this college like many others. This thought did dent my confidence from going to this college but I believe I did the right thing to go on with this college as the college staff and management was supportive.

The college from what I have heard is strict but thankfully not for B.A. Certainly one of the easiest courses on the planet and that was one of the reasons why I chose this course. The classes were held in noon and the commerce crowd would have disappeared by then. The teaching staff were capable and were not at all harsh in going on things. The college maintained a pace that suits all the students. This made my life easy at the college and therefore for the students who are weak in studies and want to have a degree can opt B.A. from Mumbai University and study at K.V. Pendharkar.

The faculty members on the first day itself asked that does anyone knows the scope of arts. None of us could answer and the faculty members showed what arts students can contribute. We always had their backing as they never died down for support and always encouraged students to field in for the passion we have. The faculty members also took care of the less attendance and as they were more than happy if we spent our time on the things of our interest. Thus faculty members were the one who made our lives more than easy while I was studying in the college.

Placements are seriously not meant for B.A. students. Harsh reality but I knew it by the time I joined the college that even though the college has a great placement cell and has put 2 and 2 together to make sure maximum students can get the placements, B.A. students still failed to attract the industries. No harsh feeling though and no jealousy as well because the college did well as during the final year we all were approached regarding placement. Never mind the college has excellent placement facilities for other courses students though.

Not just our college but most of the colleges in Mumbai and Thane don’t have hostel facilities. Our college was no different as we were denied the hostels. Gopal Paying guest is an option for people who are coming from outside or from far off place. There are also flats available nearby colleges and many students from different colleges share the apartment. The college notice board is full of such notices that we need room partner or PG facility available. Finding rooms in Thane is not at all difficult. Many students from other states and different places are a part of this college and they stay at nearby PGs and flats.

The college size is good and we don’t have 40-50 acres campus but students in Mumbai are used to a pocket sized campus. In that regard our college was huge as it has a lot of open spaces where students used to spend time once they were done with the college. The college build was renovated a couple of years before I joined. The college has a colossal library that serves the purpose of all the departments. The college has a good gymnasium as well. The best part about the college is that NCC and NSS also operates in our college and there are vacancies every year in both. There are also separate unaided and aided offices in the campus. How can I walk away without mentioning about the canteen which was in a way lifeline for the students.

The life in the college was great. No hard and fast lectures, no rush to the college as the timings were noon for Arts. The afterhours gossips in the campus and having fun with the friends. Mumbai colleges and fests are the reasons that attract students. The annual fest Valay was the one where arts students were the show stoppers and I also contributed in whatever way I can in entertaining the crowd. Besides this the college has also started department fest which was among the students of specific departments. The fests brought everyone on their toes and I waited for the fests right from the beginning of the new academic year. Life at K.V. Pendharkar College is the best and for people who want to join this college should note that college has more facilities than many other colleges in Thane.
