KV Pendharkar College of Arts Science and Commerce B.Com Review By Vasant Vasava

K.V. Pendharkar College was started in the year 1974 and in these 5 decades the college has become a go to college for the residents of Thane. I used to stay in Dombivali then and travelling to Thane was a big deal as the lectures were held at odd hours in the morning. The importance of this college can be gauged by the fact that foundation stone of the college was laid by former Indian cricket captain, Late Shri Ajit Wadekar. Not just the junior college and the undergraduate courses, but the college also offers post graduates, and PhD courses as well. The college is great and the facilities are adept. I enjoyed my time to the core while pursuing B.Com from this college. I wish I could do something for the college as the college paved way for a better future for us.

The college is strict as 75% attendance is compulsory and failing to meet the required attendance are not given admission in the second year. The college is as strict as it can be when it comes to academics. The classrooms are huge and airy and so are the laboratories. The college is affiliated to the University of Mumbai and thus offers a 3 year B.Com course that has 6 theories and 2 practical every year. The college gives the first priority to the students and beyond books some values and guidance are given. If I had to rate the college on the basis of academics I would rate it 11 on 10 as the way the college has held its rules in terms of studies is outstanding.

The faculty is outstanding as all of them have a vast experience in teaching. The faculty members were nice and easy persons to go to. Gave us the license to come and express any doubts at any point in time. As a faculty members that was maximum that they can do. They went beyond the system to help out students and Mr. Jain who used to stay nearby invited students to his place in case they had any doubts. Loved their mentorship and how they gone about the business to make sure we are done with syllabus well before the time. Students opting for B.Com hardly study and our faculty members made sure that if we pay attention to them in the class properly we will be left with no doubts.

There were no placements on campus facility for B.Com. For B.Sc and post graduate courses the placements are awesome. Many leading companies come to the campus and recruit the able students. I wish B.Com students too had such an opportunity but nevertheless we were happy with the services provided by the college. The college kept a database of the students and also of the organizations that attended the campus. The placement cell asked students to register for the placements but none for the B.Com got placed. The college did their part but the recruiters were not interested in hiring B.Com students.

The college doesn’t have a hostel of their own. The campus has open areas but the management seems least interested in having a hostel. One primary reason for that is that many outsiders join our college and few that who join opt for apartments near the college area for their accommodation.

The college believes in safety and therefore all the buildings are fireproof. The college area is good enough as the campus is spread across 4 acres. Talking about the infrastructure there are spacious and airy rooms. There are nice and spacious laboratories. There are 2 conference halls in the campus and both are air-conditioned. There’s also a large auditorium in the campus. The college has common rooms separate for boys and girls in the main building. A small gym has also been installed inside the campus. The college also has a small but nice canteen. The college also has a humongous library that has all the syllabus as well as non-syllabus books as well. Besides this NSS and NCC offices are also in the college campus. The strength sanctioned for NCC is 80 girls and 56 boys. Thus there are enough facilities in the campus that can keep students busy.

The teachers in the campus were more of a mentor who guided us in achieving our goals and the path that I should follow to achieve them. The highly competitive world and the changing lifestyle is demanding and therefore the college also threw challenges to make us stronger. The college hosted fests and gave us enough opportunities in addition to studies as well. Some students who were not interested in studies joined some or the other clubs and also some of them joined NCC as well. The life in the college was cool and passed away within twinkling of eyes. Loved the charm that the college had and the best part was the interaction with seniors in our college. Not only they were helpful but used to guide us as well.
