National Institute of Mass Communication and Journalism Ahmedabad Campus: Photos, Virtual Tour

If you think that a journalism college has to be flashy then I am sorry but you are wrong. It wasn’t shady either but the building which probably looked old from outside had one of the latest labs and studio in the offering. The studio room was just like a media house studio where virtual interviews were done and all the editing stuff was done. A basketball court was all that the college had in the name of sporting facilities but we didn’t had time to play that as well. Infrastructure had all the things required in our studies but at least they can paint the walls because there are signs of wear and tear on the walls now.

Putting all things in perspective there’s just one thing that I can say. The college was rocking and punches a pack. It was hard to bunk the college as even though there were very fewer holidays, we were always running behind the time to finish the tasks assigned. How to chase the 8th ball was definitely the biggest learning at NIMCJ and I am glad the college made us responsible at such a young age. NIMCJ is probably one of the best colleges for mass comm studies and rather than going to colleges that charges double or triple the fees and offering the same things, NIMCJ can definitely be a great career option.Read Full Review

The college was a four-floor building located at the Gandhinagar Highway. It was arguably one of the best-developed highways that I have seen. I am from Delhi and for all those who say, one should see that highway or that highway, I would request them to come and see the highway in which this college is located. What we don’t have at this highway. There are residential buildings and commercial buildings on this highway. Almost all the branded food outlets and mostly the vegetarians one because Gujju land hardly has non-veg restaurants. My ancestors were from Gujarat and maybe it was in my destiny to come and study in my motherland and I am happy that I came here. Cleanliness and greenery were next levels. First floor of the building was for UG students, 2nd for MA and the third floor was ours that also housed the print and electronic media labs. Those labs should be incorporated by IIMC because this is what labs are. The studio which is the most important room for learning journalism was beyond my imaginations. Lightings, cameras, and an editing room adjacent to that. The 4th floor was the admin block and the staff room was also located on the top floor. The building had lifts, washrooms on each floor, and also water purifiers on all floors. Stairs were always filled with students because that is where all the creativity of the students came out. The college didn’t have much of a space as the space between the gate and the building was less than 50m.

The joyous atmosphere at the college almost lets you forget that you have come miles from your home. There were hardly any students from other states but our Gujju friends were so heartwarming that they never let us feel like one. Would bring Gujarati breakfast for us most of the days and college canteen which was anyway of no use was hardly used by us. I may have not got the desired job but I got the job where I wanted to and for that, I was pleased with the campus of NIMCJ.Read Full Review

College is close-packed as it’s not that big. Among facilities, it has a digital library that can work wonders for your course. Along with digital, there’s also a conventional library but to be frank I never visited there. Who goes for Dal Chawal after having a pudding. Then there was a beautiful electronic media and a print media lab. For group discussion, there was a conference room. A workstation was installed at the campus known as the editing room. The most important thing that a mass comm college must have is a studio. The studio of the college had virtual background slides and we created reports using those backgrounds. There was a huge incubation center and last but not the least a basketball court to ease off some pressure from the drawing board.

My name will still be there in the bench that I used to sit. The laptop friendly bench was my favorite and even after the classes I used to finish my reports at the classrooms. The college used to get over at 5 pm but I never left the college premises before 7. The next day was already planned and we were taught to do everything in advance. The new age journalism is ain’t easy and we were made tough for that. We saw college not just as an opportunity but as an office which will teach us how our future will be.
