The Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences or KIMS was founded and established by the Vokkaligara Sangha in the year 1980. On 30th of November 1980, the then Honorable Chief Minister Shri R Gundu Roy, laid the foundation of this prestigious institute of medical sciences. The institute is affiliated with the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health and Sciences, and is renowned to offer some of the most sought after medical courses for students aspiring to pursue career in the healthcare industry. The college celebrated its Silver Jubilee in the year 2006.
KIMS in recent years has been able to carve out a niche of its own, when it comes to making capable and responsible medical professionals. Doctors who complete their medical degree from KIMS don’t look behind as they are a cut above the rest in terms of their knowledge and confidence.

It is part of the curriculum of III, IV and Vth term students. Apart from fully-equipped library, laboratory and seminar hall, the legal forensic concepts are explained in public mortuaries, if required. There is also a paper published on Toxicology.
