D. Pharm (Diploma in Pharmacy)
The Diploma in Pharmacy (D. Pharm) program offered by St. John’s Pharmacy College is approved by Pharmacy Council of India. This diploma course in pharmacy is a 2-year fulltime course for which students attend classes at the campus. A candidate who is interested to take up the D. Pharm course of SJPC needs to clear the PUC exam of Karnataka’s state education department.
A student who has cleared the 10+2/higher secondary exam of any other approved central or state education board can also apply. Also, the subjects in which the candidate should have appeared in the final exams of PUC must have been a combination of mathematics, chemistry, physics, and biology. The minimum marks on an aggregated basis should not be less than 40%.
In the first year, the student has to complete theory and practical papers in pharmaceuticals, pharmacognosy, biochemistry & clinical pathology, pharmaceutical chemistry, and human anatomy & physiology. In the 2nd year, the learner gains knowledge in pharmaceutics, pharmacology & toxicology pharmaceutical chemistry, hospital and clinical pharmacy, drug store & business management, and pharmaceutical jurisprudence.
Once the students complete the B. Pharm program, they can apply for jobs in the pharmaceutical sciences sector and its allied segments.
The allied or analogous segments include R&D, production and manufacturing, hospitals, analysis and testing, government departments, and regulatory bodies.
B. Pharm (Bachelor of Pharmacy)
The Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm) course on offer is a fulltime program with a 4-year academic duration. The minimum eligibility criterion for this undergraduate pharmacy program is a pass in the PUC test organized by Karnataka’s pre-university education. Students who have cleared the 10+2/higher secondary exam from any other certified state or central board is eligible as well. All other eligibility terms & conditions are the same as D. Pharm course.
The college also has a provision for lateral entry where the student gains admission directly into the 2nd year of the program. So, all students who register for the course via the lateral entry mode have to study for only 3 years. So as to gain entry via the lateral entry system, the candidate must have a D. Pharm certification awarded by Board of Examining Authority in Bangalore, Karnataka. The candidate has to secure at least 50% marks in the D. Pharm examination to secure admission into the course.
M. Pharm (Master of Pharmacy)
The Master of Pharmacy is a 2-year postgraduate course that is recognized by the Pharmacy Council of India. To qualify for the program, the candidate needs to hold a B. Pharm degree of a recognized university or institution. The curriculum of the M. Pharm examination has been devised in accordance with the current trends existing in the pharmacy industry.
The delivery techniques comprise workshops, live projects and assignments, practical training, lab work, and classroom instructions. Some of the paper included in the program includes ‘drug regulatory affairs’, ‘biological evaluation’, biopharmaceutics and pharmacokinetics’, and ‘novel drug delivery systems’.
