Anand Institute of Management MBA Review By Anil Sharma

Anand Institute of Management is a great college affiliated with Gujarat Technological University. The college is a self-financed college and the curriculum is designed to give students an experience that is extremely unique and unmatched. Post graduate course is demanding and thanks to my previous college ITM Vocational University as the experience that I gained there actually helped me have an edge over the students coming from different colleges. AIM is one of the most reputed MBA colleges in Gujarat and that is visible as students from almost all the cities of Gujarat were in my batch. The infra of AIM is much better than B-schools have in general. The MBA course here is completely different as from what I have learned that students are stuck with classes and projects. At AIM, you will be having all the perks that UG students enjoy. The one problem though is I had to be in uniform back again.

The strictness level was beyond imagination. During the first interaction the management gave a lecture on how the next 2 years will be and missing one activity can cost you a better placement opportunity. Thus, our hands were tied and we had to be in the campus for the next couple of years. The classes were done and dusted by 3 pm and at 5 pm we had to gather for some fun activities. All study and no play makes Jack a dull boy was implemented well by the college. Though it wasn’t compulsion but the fun that we had in those sessions made lives at AIM easy. Also, there was no uniform in these events and therefore students also participated in numbers.

Faculty members were the most dedicated ones. First, they had to give us lectures on the respective subjects and then join us for activity and project sessions. Students missed many of such events but faculty members never. This shows their dedication and also motivated us to be a part of maximum activities that we can. MBA was made so fun and all thanks to our wonderful faculty and other staff members who ran up and down with students.

The placement cell was active from the first year itself and that committee was the one that trained in general knowledge, presentations, soft and communication skills. The placement cell made strategies and taught us how to grab the best opportunity during placements. All their inputs helped me and all my classmates to grab placements from the campus itself. The placement record was 100% for sure and the day didn’t just brought smiles on our faces but our faculty members were equally happy too.

The college campus has hostel buildings both for boys and girls. The hostel rooms were not good as the quality of beds and room flooring was just not meant to be. Yes, with the fees that they charged one can’t complain but many students actually wanted to stay out of campus because of that. The same was the case with the girls hostel as the beds were old and we had to clean our rooms ourselves and to take time out for cleaning was absolutely not possible. The rooms have 2 options that are double and triple sharing. The pocket-sized room with 3 students was just too much from the offering that campus gave but then we ignored as most of our time was spent outside the hostel.

The infrastructure in a sense is old. No complaints but first the uniform and then the classrooms that has school like benches. The library may not be huge but I never found problem in finding the books that I wanted. In library a Xerox center was also there and that helped as we didn’t had to step out. The college has a garden which was asked to group studies was mostly used for poking. The garden was small but all the students could adjust in that as that was the best seating on the campus. Oh, I forgot the computer lab. During my time all the computers were replaced and it took care of all our presentations as rather than making the PPTs in hostel I preferred staying at the computers lab. Since the MBA college is inside the SRKSM campus, the AIM students had access to playground and we made a good use of that. Apart from outdoor sports ground, indoor sports facilities like carom and chess are also there. The location of the campus is great as it is right next to the town hall in Anand. Stepping out and in a range of 1km you will have everything from petrol pumps to food joints.

The project work and the fun activities that were conducted so that students can gel together was an unforgettable experience. Gender biasness doesn’t exist at AIM and this was the best part. The ratio of female students was much less but still the male students never tried to dominate them. It wasn’t allowed of course but the students who joined the institute belong to cultured families and never indulged in any such activities. Thus the female students can enjoy all their liberty and may not be spoken much about AIM but is one of the best MBA colleges in the state for sure.
