Mount Carmel College BBA Review By Ankita Singh

I attended Mount Caramel College for my undergraduate in business and I was really content with my course. Not only the course, but even the college atmosphere as it is located in the heart of Bangalore. MCC is one of the top BBA Colleges in Bangalore. If you want to join BBA, then I would recommend this college. My department is managed by Dr. VN. Raghu. This is an all-girls college which was established by Mary Grace in the late 1800s. She believed that women should be provided with good educations and be empowered, and that is the basic principle that the college still stands for today. Apart from this, the college is also very caring about the environment, and it even won 2nd place in the country for being one of the cleanest institutions. It has the highest grade of ranking from NAAC which is A+. The reason why college has been top ranked is because it has excelled in every parameter that I will be discussing in this review.

I got my bachelors degree in business. To get admitted here, you can have done your 11th and 12th standards in any stream like commerce, science, or arts. You will have to take an exam which will test you in basic knowledge and some subjects like mathematics and current affairs. After this, there will be two interviews. The first one will be like with a group, and second one will be one-on-one interview with the admissions faculty. The one-on-one interview was more personal and they’ll ask things like why you wanted to join the college and what you see yourself doing after graduation. You can think about getting into this course if you want to develop and enhance entrepreneurial skills. There are a lot of elective courses you can choose from in your final semesters according to which stream you want to pursue after graduation.

Coming to the teachers in my department, I would say that you learn what you put in. The faculty teaches mainly with power points or orally, and most of them don’t give like notes or anything. You just have to listen to them when they talk and write your own notes. I highly recommend this because most of the teachers give you hints about exams and topics to focus on when they are talking about a topic. I guess this is what separates school from college, as you have to learn to be more independent. Also, when you put in more interest, the teachers do notice that, and they are also available during certain times of the day where you can go ask those doubts and for any help. Most of the teachers are experienced and have their Masters in the relevant subject. Few have PhDs but the most important thing is that their attitude is right.

The placement cell is average in the college. Mostly, the packages ranged from between Rs. 4-5 lakhs per year. I chose to go on for further studies, so I didn’t attend any interviews. However, I did take part in the pre-placement training that was offered by the college. Here we got to have some mock interviews with our department faculty and they would ask us typical interview questions like about strengths, weaknesses and all. Some of my friends got placed in companies like Indiamart and TCS but many stayed away as the placements were not that good enough.

I live in Bangalore, so I attended college from home. However, many of my friends stayed at the hostel. They have said that the hostel is really strict. You have to be back by 7 pm every day. Also, you have to get up at 6 and attend prayer by 6.30 in the mornings. Apart from this, the food is good, and the menus are changed every alternative week. You can get rooms ranging from single occupancy to three person occupancy. My recommendation would be to stay in the hostel your first year to just get to know people, and then get an apartment with friends or stay in a PG after that.

The college provided us with all the necessary infrastructure and facilities. We had a nice library and two auditoriums. There is also a chapel situated on campus. Being an all girls’ college, we still got to have all of the usual sports facilities like football field, volleyball court, basketball court, and a track field.

Overall, I would say that I am happy that I joined this college. After this, I went on to do my MBA, and this college’s way of making us be independent really helped me catch up with what was required in my PG program. I would say that the best memories of my college years were the fests and competitions at this college. The annual fest to look forward to is the Cul-ah fest which goes on for two days, and students from all around India come to attend and participate in it. It even has big sponsors like Pepsi. So, you can guess how huge and grand the fest it. Students from all different departments join together and participate in dance, singing, theatre, and much more.
