Mount Carmel College B.Com Review By Nandita Shankar

My experience at Mount Carmel College has been incredibly rewarding as a B.Com (Hons.) student. I chose this college primarily for its strong academic reputation in Commerce and the vibrant campus atmosphere. The faculty is expertly trained, and the diverse student community creates a really supportive environment. I believe others should consider this college if you're looking for something that gives you chances to grow professionally and personally. The 65 associations provided to students for extra-curricular are an added bonus for sure.

The current B.Com Program aligns with the industry trends and entry requirements are straightforward. Once application is done through the MCC portal, the first round of candidates is selected on merit basis as per their 2nd PU marks (generally 85+ is the criteria but may differ each year). I enrolled in this program to gain practical knowledge in Finance and Business Management which are crucial for my future career. The emphasis on experiential learning through projects and internships has honestly given me some of the best insights into the business world.

All the professors at MCC are experienced and dedicated, making sure students understand the curriculum and pacing the syllabus accordingly. They use various teaching methods ranging from PowerPoint presentations and case studies to interactive discussions which make the learning process more engaging. Most of the faculty members are supportive and approachable and always ready to help clarify doubts for better understanding.

Our college has an active Placement Cell which has enabled students to secure internships in top companies like D.E Shaw, Deloitte, JP Morgan and several others. The job placements process is done through aptitude tests, mock interviews and workshops which boost the students’ confidence and equip them with industry relevant skills necessary for future career opportunities and growth.

Personally, I don't live in the hostel provided by MCC due to limited number of seats available. Some of my friends are hostellers and I've heard that there are various recreational facilities available for the students and overall, a comfortable environment is provided. I would encourage people to go for it because the exposure to different cultural groups and backgrounds is unmatched.

The infrastructure is impressive, featuring modern academic blocks specifically designed for students for each stream. We have access to well-maintained classrooms, computer labs, reading rooms, etc. wherein the reading rooms serve as lounges for students to relax during breaks. Libraries are stocked with shelves of academic oriented and fictional reads, and the canteen is always jam-packed though you can enjoy delicious food whenever you feel like. Overall, the campus is built wonderfully and structured to meet the students' needs.

Coming to the campus life, there are a ton of opportunities for extra-curricular engagement. Almost every student I know is a part of at least one club / society / association that interests them (20+ different associations in the field of Commerce / Management / Entrepreneurship itself are available). Cultural fests happen both inter and intra college every month from different societies organising the same. Stalls are often put up in the amphitheatre throughout the year during programs and this creates a lively atmosphere to connect with like-minded individuals and expand your friend circle.
