HR College of Commerce and Economics B.Com Review By Jamshed Khan

To begin with my first experience was more than overwhelming. Sine I stay in Panvel and feeling the air of pretty girls, expensive cars and extremely rich kids was more than I could have imagined around me. My accent was of course of East Mumbai as I come from Panvel, students started liking it as they felt I was funny. I initially decided to approach the in-house students and make friends with them so that I can know the culture of HR. One thing which I would like to clear is that all the airs that I had about these rich kids was in my head as in reality they were are very helpful and humble. My parents made me go there as South Mumbai has some of the best CA coaching classes and HR was one college were you can get away without attending lectures. Since I couldn’t complete CA, I actually though I should have spent more time at the college. HR was one of the best experiences that I will have in this lifetime for sure.

The college is not strict and perhaps they respect all the smartness and talent that you have. For the students who don’t want to be a part of studies as a whole there are unlimited cultural clubs through which you can show what you have got. Then Principal Indu Shahani was the coolest person in the college. Even if she noticed that the students are not in the class, she would still greet each one of us with smile. Academic is not strict doesn’t mean you can’t add to your armory. Just leave your shyness aside and see what the college can do. It will boost up your confidence to the next level and if you have some other interests, equal opportunities will be provided for sure.

Since I was not regular doesn’t mean I was unnoticed by my professors. In fact they took more care of students like me and before exams notes and question banks were provided by the faculty members itself. They were so nice and calm that you can talk anything to them and they will enjoy all your talks. Their experience was immense and that helped the students who paid attention to what they said before every exams.

First of all I was not regular and still if I think of getting placed is wrong from my part. The college did invited few companies to have a look at the talent that HR has got. Some people did find their destiny while some left stranded. Most students didn’t even cared and that is how it all ended. Many students got a job in their interest as they were associated with the societies that are running in the college. They got ample intern opportunities for the same during college life and after the college many started working with them. I have written this before that if you are at HR and not active there’s no point. Use HR for all good reasons that it has as the college will provide enough opportunities to excel in whichever field you want.

The college is so small that even though many outsiders come for studies the college can’t do anything to help them. There are few hostels nearby and some of them also formed a group and rented apartments and the things are still the same. It’s quite costly though as I stayed in a PG along with 4 and had to pay 20k a month.

If the college building can’t entice you, I am sure the interior will definitely do. One building is all that the college is left with but inside the building, you have all that the nearby colleges have. A well-maintained library. A green room or refreshment room whatever you can call it. A canteen that will take some doing to get your order completed as it is often loaded with students. The air-conditioned classrooms and the comfortable benches made it easier to sit in the classes. The luxury cars that the college students can be seen parked outside the college as inside the campus there’s hardly any space.

HR is not strict about the attendance and for every CA aspirant I think HR is the best. Apart from submissions and internals, I hardly went to the college and therefore missed a lot of campus life. I still regret it today. You will see students running here and there as all students are dedicated in whichever field they are. I don’t know whether you can learn anything else or not but you will definitely learn the time management skills with HR. I only know how I managed by time at the college as I was also pursuing CA at the same time. The college leniency towards us helped but still had to go to the college every while. Fests are regular as apart from cultural fest, management fests, sports fest are organized annually. The intercollegiate business fest DISCIDIUM was introduced during our time and as many as 8-10 college students participated. HR was on top and why not with the talent that HR has they are sure to come out on top always.
