Marathwada Mitra Mandal's College of Commerce B.Com Review By Suba Bhaskar

MMCC is a local college of Pune with no beneficiaries as the college is just another college. The college is good but when you compare it with other colleges of Pune of for that matter the nearby colleges like BMCC College, or Symbiosis College it is much below them. The crowd is local or the ones who are from other cities of Maharashtra. Attending the lectures is not mandatory and coming from Assam I believe was the only Assamese during my tenure. The hustle-bustle at the college made the campus look gloomy always. The Marathwada Mitra Mandal Trust that runs this college has various colleges in the state and knows how to survive and that is why the college seats are always full. The college always stressed upon one thing and that was to associate with the MBA cadre. The campus is not that amazing as it is small and can’t be compared with the standards that Pune College has.

The college is sincere as they believe in providing the best education. They aren’t strict but made sure that students at least visit college every month by means of arranging compulsory sessions. The college themselves told us that there are few studious ones and the one who aren’t regular at least keep in touch with the ones that are regular so that they can know the projects details, the practical’s and the submission dates. The lectures were held regularly and a class of 100 was never more than 30% full. I was among those 30% and can say that college is pretty good when it comes to academics.

All the faculty members were graduated from top Universities and were also gold medalist. I was among the regular ones so can say that they helped those who wanted to help themselves. How to get into management cadre and prepare for management studies was guided by none other than my faculty members. They were clear that B.Com won’t lead you anywhere and it is perhaps an opportunity to try out other things like CA, joining MBA coaching centers or the ones who had interest in other areas. The faculty was helpful in all the possible ways.

Is this some kind of a joke? The students were irregular and the course was not something that helped us develop any skill than placement would have anyways made no sense. The BCA students were the only ones who got jobs I reckon rest all courses students I don’t think had the campus job facility at MMCC.

The college doesn’t have its own hostel but the area has many hostel and flats in the surroundings. I stayed at a PG nearby and many students of nearby college also put up there. Pune is little expensive and it’s better if you can find yourself hostel facility. For students of North-East sadly there’s no such hostel but otherwise there are Jain hostels, Maheshwari hostel, and Christian hostels nearby the college.

The college has a quota for physically disabled students and the college has lifts and wheel chairs available for them. It was a nice gesture and the management had also had staffs to help out such students. The previous point may not have been important but I felt it has to be mentioned. The library was small but was armed with books of different arrays. The only problem was the library hours as it was operational only till 4.30. Many classes also took at the newly made IT lab which had 100pcs and all latest. The IT labs also had blackboards and the IT classes were mostly conducted in this lab. MMCC college canteen had a wide menu to choose from. From South Indian to Pav Bhaji, it had all. The college is clean and has a very high standard of maintain cleanliness as there are as many as 4 dust-bins in this small scale campus. For garden waste there’s a separate dust bin and the same way it was for waste food and garden waste as well.

The college was not so harsh on studies but that doesn’t mean the college didn’t had events or the other activities. Felicitation was an everyday month thing as all the students who excelled in any areas were called on stage and felicitated for the same. This was a huge boost for the students as receiving an award in front of 1000 students was something that everyone wish for. The college’s go green program is one such program through which the college made sure that if a student is caught throwing plastic bags inside the campus, he/she will be penalized heavily. That was a great initiative to be a part of I have followed that since then. The students were mostly Marathi or from the same province but I was welcomed and made friends with all my batch mates. Not just the students but the teachers were equally friendly and I enjoyed every second that I spent at the college.
