Nair Hospital Dental College BDS Review By Anushri Bhojane

I have always been interested in Dentistry, from the start, when all of my friends dreamt of becoming MBBS or MD doctors. And which college would have been better for studying BDS, if not Nair Hospital Dental College. Nair College of Dentistry and Topiwala National Medical College (TNMS) which offers MBBS, both colleges work together, they are like merged with each other. Both are government colleges and offer the best education. Nair Dental College is one of the top most colleges in India for studying BDS. The college adds up to the knowledge of students in every way possible. In Nair college, I really feel all my hard work and hustle to get admission here was worth the education and resources I am being offered.

Academically, the Nair Hospital and Dental College is very strict. No compromise about the academics here. I am in my third year of my BDS degree. Regular tests and assignments keep you swamped most of the time. And usually, medical students always seem to be neck deep in their studies. Our practicals are also carried out with great patience and understand which is a must for every doctor out there. Every semester, we have to give compulsory seminars. These seminars help every student in deeply understanding the topics presented in it which are also related to dentistry. In our fourth and final year we are supposed to perform a presentation. It is also a compulsory activity for every fourth year student. Nair Dental College is the best fit overall, mostly in academics.

Nair Hospital and Dental College holds some of the best faculty staff. Most of the teachers are reputed doctors from all over the country. Learning from them is itself a great opportunity the students of Nair College could have. The faculty is much disciplined and expects the same discipline from the students too. They are strict but if the time comes, they are great friends to be with. The college staff has helped me in so many ways as a teacher as well as a friend, at times. I shouldn't say anything about teaching because the staff being so fine and knowledgeable itself explains that they are great teachers too. Nair Dental College being one of the reputed colleges gets invitation to participate in every conference that is happening related to Dentistry, all over Asia. Nair Dental college has India's most famous endodontist Dr. Ajinkya Sir as a staff member. This is itself a great achievement.

Internship after 4 years of BDS course is nothing but a part of the course, that too, the most important one. There are no degrees distributed to the students without their internship. After BDS, if one want to go for higher studies such as MDS, Nair College is there, offering the post graduation course to the students. During our internship period, we are trained to handle different situations that can arise with various patients. My seniors tell the faculty staff is very supportive and encouraging during courtship. They train students with all the patience and make them understand every aspect thoroughly. Every raised doubt by students is answered by the teachers which helps students towards a keen understanding of the problem.

Nair College also has the hostel. But the hostel is at least 4-5 km away from the college, though a new hostel building is under construction in the college campus area itself. The hostel staff is a neat freak. The cleanliness is well maintained. The sweeper comes every other day for cleaning the hostel area and our rooms as well. Mess or tiffin facilities are also available in the hostel. Not much room for entertainment but the hostel does have a TV hall on the first floor of the hostel building. The hostel rules are also very much strict. Discipline is everywhere let it be the college or hostel. No one tries to mess with the discipline here or else they get punished. Some of my classmates who stay in the hostel has been punished a couple of times for not following the rules.

Nair College has an amazing infrastructure. The classrooms and offices are fully AC. The college has an auditorium, library, and canteen. The library is my favorite place in the whole building. It holds thousands of books on various subjects and reading in the library is next level experience because of the silent atmosphere in the library. The infrastructure is all over very posh. There's not much of greenery in the college campus but still it doesn't feel much odd because of that. Every floor has one subject department; there are a total of 8 subjects we have in the Dentistry, hence the 8 floor building of the college. The atmosphere at Nair Dental College is very healthy and productive.

Though the campus does not have any greenery or anything of that sort still it is pleasant. The college has indoor games like table tennis and badminton. When sometimes it is a lot to take the lectures and studies, we hang out and play indoor games, just to relax. There are no sports ground in the campus. Nair Hospital and Dental College has proved in various ways that it is the best amongst all. Not only annual events are celebrated with a great spirit but also different scientific events are held in the college to boost the creative growth of the students. As a student such activities are the best way to get some break from studies and engage in creative events which are also academics related but fun too.
