University of Hyderabad M.Tech Review By Raju Mahato

I completed my PG in engineering from UoH and must say that my aim to be globally competent got full filled here. After spending such a quality time at the University a fair review is what I will be providing of one of the most scintillating University one will ever come across. From the outset itself I was left numb as I have never seen a place like this before. Yes, I hardly travelled till then but still UoH is extraordinary for sure. I can keep on writing about the awards and accolades that the University has won over the years. They are endless and so is the University’s ability to make you a star studded engineer who can work at any international organization without any fuss. The prized faculty of the University was so down to earth. There are over 8-10 colleges inside the campus and all have their set of building, and labs. The University gives you freedom but politics was quite prominent at the campus as for any election rally our campus was among the most sought after one. Little do they know that many students voting area is not the constituency they are asking vote for. Not just academically but the University helped me grow as a person as well.

Absolutely no pressure and you are free to attend the lectures of your choice. The labs were huge and the best research place for the practical application of what taught in the class. I will share my thoughts on academics as I had a certain expectation because after a rigorous work at my UG level I just wanted to take all that knowledge forward and UoH is one such place where one should come only if they had a strong academic background. No one will take you back in time as the basics won’t be cleared here but if you have visited Kashmir, you will be taken to Switzerland for sure at UoH.

The faculty was established and were easily accessible. As a PG student we avoided going to them for silly doubts but they were open for all. They were always interested in our research and how are we progressing. I have never seen faculty taking such a keen interest in students as the strength was quite high of the college. The faculty members also shared their life experiences and they just can’t go wrong. It’s because they were that brilliant.

UoH has a lot of brand value and placements are a proof of that. The placements for M. Tech were top-notch as I aimed for global companies and got 1 in IBM. Not just IBM but Indosoft International, Louis Berger International, and PAREXEL International were among some of the global giants that hired many students from our batch. The average CTC was over Rs. 10 Lakhs and more than that working in a giant IT is no less than a dream. Like for engineering each department has their own placement cell and if you don’t want placements, you are required to write it in a letter that you are not interested in placements as the University has almost 100% placement for PG courses.

The hostel were pathetic but had to contain with it. First of all the fees was 500INR per month so if we didn’t have attached bathrooms or the rooms were not clean was our problem. The food was also below standard that the mess provided. There were no timings in place as you can go out and come in whenever you want as no one keeps an eye on you. Well hostel was just a formality as there were over 20 hostels including boys and girls and nearly 4000 people stays in the hostel.

Spread over 2000+ acres this is certain that you won’t find a campus bigger than this. However, half of it is Jungle and it did felt like we are in for some Jungle safari. In such a huge campus what will lack? Probably nothing that you won’t find here. I will start with the library that is named as Indira Gandhi Memorial Library. I don’t think there’s anyone who even has the count because the 2-stried library has books everywhere you see. The reading room of the library remains highly active all year round. Since I was into sports, I will talk about the sporting facilities. You love football? You have that. Oh, you love basketball? Yes the campus has that. You love any sport and the campus has it. There are 4 sports grounds and all of them are serene. The campus is huge and one of the best you will ever see.

All the festivals from Diwali to Christmas to Eid are all celebrated at the campus. The campus is secular as students of all sects and religions are a part of this wonderful campus. Apart from all the festivals fresher's event and farewell parties are also held. The annual cultural fest SUKOON is one of the best events that I have ever witnessed. From my perspective the college is great in all aspects just the hostel part if that could be changed I don’t see a reason that the University needs a fix.
