Sri Venkateshwara College of Engineering B.Tech Review By Ranjeet Shetty

The college is affiliated to VTU, Belgaum and if you wish to secure good rank at the University level then this college is not for you as no matter what the faculty will not give you good marks in internals. It was always a catch up thing at the mains as the college has set a very high standard and it is not easy to please one and all. I cursed all my faculty all 4 years as even after impressing them they never gave me full marks in the internals. At, SVCE there was diversity as many people from other states of the country were also studying here. Some good points about SVCE is that they don’t care much and easy-peasy is the way at SVCE. I had a lot of free times as there was nothing called monthly tests or long assignments or projects to be submitted. If one wants to have a complete utilization of time then this college is best as projects are not just allotted by the college as you can be a part of many mini projects and you will also get an opportunity to send your research to many international journals. The opportunities were high and the education was impartial.

There was never a single nerdy day or moment at the college. Watching students doing their things was a motivation in itself. Introduction of many things were done during our time and it showed the results. Like an establishment of a student corner were many committees gathered and all can talk out their issues or their ideas. All the classrooms were also went for up-gradation during our second year. Now all the classes have speakers, and projectors installed. Our classes were taken through videos and the dean also gave surprise visits every now and then to keep a check that it’s not done through chalk and board.

After the implementation of new techniques the faculty was able to have more eye contact with the students. If we were distracted all the visuals were recorded and we had our share of consequences then. The money that was spent by management was put in place to yield results. However, engineers are those professional who can even sleep with open eyes. The faculty’s teaching probed during the semester exams. The faculty personally mailed all the PPT’s of exam materials to the students. All the notes that we received were to the point and they were enough to score well in the exams. It was just the internals that made them our enemies otherwise they were quite helpful.

The training and placement cell was also upgraded during our time. The cell functioned effectively and had our soft skills report cards with them. We all were invited and brushed upon the things which we should. The placements were not that great but at least we were prepared to grab a placement on own if not from the campus. Our placement coordinator was cool and even though just 8-10 companies visited our campus, most of us had an offer. The stats would have changed as I passed out 7 years back and there’s no point mentioning those. If you are 7 pointer and above you will have placement from the campus.

I didn’t have a choice and had to stay in the hostel for all 4 years. The rooms were good but the same routine menu actually made the hostel life boring. For vegetarian the hostel was decent as no non-vegetarian food was served in the hostel. Only 2 students were allowed in one room and it was cleaned daily. If students kept their room untidy they were even fined. The Wi-Fi facility at the hostel was not free but the cheapest that you will find as we paid just INR 1000 for a year. Hostel timings were strict as 9PM was little early but that was the limit.

The college is located near the highway and is some 20-25 kms from the Bangalore city. The developed that has been made in the area will never let you feel that you are far from the city. The city buses were easily available from the bus stop next to the college. The campus is lush green and is near about 100 acres in area. The library and auditorium were great but the best were the sports grounds. We had 3 sports grounds for different sports like Cricket, Football, and Hockey. There were also 4 tennis courts as 2 were reserved for girls. There was also a basketball court and a huge swimming pool.

Interacting with students coming from different culture was new for me. I learned a lot of stuffs in the college and was overall happy with the college programs. Tech events were not of huge magnitude but we had guests that attended the fests. Since studies are not the only thing that is given the importance at the college, I made the most of my time at the college. I think I have written long enough as no college will offer everything to you and it’s up to you how you adapt yourself in the college culture.
