University of Visvesvaraya College of Engineering M.Tech Review By Khush Thakkar

More than 100 years old college and probably the oldest engineering college of Bangalore is great when it comes to placements. The college has spoon-feeding even for M. Tech students and this is why I will be rating this college very highly irrespective of what others have to say. Once you do engineering from here, you will have great placement opportunities. After missing out during my graduation and the pandemic was at its peak when the placements were about to start the University still made sure that the students have placements. Hats-off for the online company interview that was conducted and never ever in my life did I thought that these things are even possible. The college could have easily excused but it didn’t and the college itself arranged the campus interviews through conferencing inside the campus. I was glad that I was locked in the University hostel during the lockdown because even if we couldn’t go out walking in the hostel campus was enough to cry down the lockdown. The pandemic has taught us a lot and the way University stood for its students was commendable.

The attendance is not strict but still, you can make for your lost time as it is not just studied in the college. ME is a different ball game altogether and for people who think ME is just an extension of BE should always go for PG. The University as I said earlier had even done spoon feeding at times and never made fun of students who had doubts left or haven’t grasped everything that they should during UG.

Well is it with Bangalore or UVCE that the professors were the best. All of them were from IIT or NIT and what mattered the most was that they taught us well. The teaching was based on exploring the technical ideas in students and in-puts from our end were prioritized. The Professors of the University were HULK in terms of knowledge because they might be old in numbers but knew what’s currently going on and what the future holds. The professors never made a deep connection with the students but if they pass by will wear a smile on their faces. No partiality among the locals or the outsiders and this made the professors of the University one of the best.

The college notice board never lied and the list of the student getting placed including all departments was 80% plus. The University has a deep connection with auto companies like Toyota, Benz, and General Motors among others. Our whole placement process revolved around the auto giants and getting placed in Toyota that too through a video interview was like a dream come true. The pandemic was at its peak in April 2020 and this was the time when I was assured that I will be a part of Kirloskar Toyota after I clear the final semester. The package can’t be disclosed but trust me it was in line with students' expectations.

The boy's hostel was at the city campus and the girls hostel is located at the Jnana Bharathi, Bangalore University. The boy’s hostel was old and the rooms were not that great. Small could have still been manageable but the tables and cupboards are almost over and I hope they change at least that if they don’t want to renew the hostel. The hostel had students of all religions, states, and all the festivals were celebrated in the hostel. Food was not mandatory and we could manage it on our own. I decided to avoid the hostel food as I was done with the hostel food during my grad period. I wish I could comment about the food part but since I had that just twice or thrice can’t throw much light on that.

Starting with the library that had nearly 2 lakh books was a huge ask. A 100-year building that still exists was the one where we attended classes. The college infrastructure is not as good as it has all the facilities but if one terms it as a forest they are not wrong. The main building is too old and the gates can fall anytime soon. The roofs of the building is full of dirt and even some trees have dried up. The roads are built of tiles and that was the only good part about the infrastructure. It needs a manifold change to attract students as looking at the college, students might try to avoid because academic is not the only thing one looks at while entering the college. Moreover, the University doesn’t even have a playground.

A lot of students at UVCE were concentrating on Civil services exams and if we leave out infrastructure everything about the University is great. The University will shape your future and will assist with every single thing that you want. Not many events or high-profile guest lectures that is common in Bangalore Universities. Academics and placements are the only silver lining here and if you have these criteria on your mind then UVCE is the one for you.
