Acharya Institute of Technology M.Tech Review By Somprabh Prajapati

I think I got obsessed with AIT - Acharya Institute of Technology as my previous college was also AIT (Atria Institute of Technology). Well, there’s a lot of difference as Acharya is Acharya a little far from the city and one part that I missed in my last college was the hostel. I finally got the opportunity to enjoy hostel life as well at Acharya and I just went gaga over it. The group is one of the most renowned in Bangalore and the Acharya Institute is a prime example of their Excellency. A campus that has almost everything from the divine atmosphere to lush green fields to modern labs and classrooms. There’s a lot to talk about Acharya as it is not just a college but a life that I never imagined growing up. Acharya Institute of Technology Admission process is simplest as if you have done UG in engineering from a reputed college, you will get a direct entry. They may ask for GATE score and all but that’s just for their records as admissions are never a concern here. Since Acharya is an autonomous college the course was designed by the University itself and it was more of a practical enhanced course and that what made my PG years even more fun.

Above-average would be my rating as the facilities were plethora but the system was not so good. Being a programming expert we were mostly working our way out at the computer labs. The classes were sometimes postponed or we were assigned notes to work with. The number of subjects included in our course were too much as most of them had nothing to do with IT but still, we had to have at least passing credits to get the degree. I am not complaining but few things about academics were a little poor.

Answering this would be tricky as few of them were great while some sad. All in all, the faculty was nice because they were clear that M.Tech is more of a self-study. If we had doubts they were mostly cleared but the class timings and the scheduling were poor. Some faculty hardly showed any interest and before exams gave us a question bank and we had exactly the same set of questions. For internal marking, they were a little strict and the rest depend on the kind of camaraderie one has with the faculty.

At Acharya, placements are of zero concern. All you need to do is maintain a CGPA of 6 and above and even better if you get above 7. Once your aggregate for the first three semesters is above 7, your placements are more or less final. Proper training and the placement form had all our skills mentioned. As a programmer I was given a task that I had to solve in a stipulated time in front of the HR department of HP and having that done, I had my negotiations for the job started. Never knew that there are negotiations in terms of packages at the campus placements. Nearly all the students got the desired placements and the average package was close or a shade above 10LPA.

There are 7 to 8 hostel buildings which are common for students of all disciplines. The boy's hostel was HKG hall and it was the biggest hostel on the campus that accommodated 1500+ students. The room’s options are twin, triple, and 4 sharing basis. The hostel facility was top-class as the rooms were air-conditioned and a nice set of beds, and cupboards were provided to each student. The bathrooms were attached and the dining hall served all 3 meals in a day. The food, by the way, was delicious and if the food options don’t suit your taste buds on any particular day there are various canteens and cafeterias to delight your taste buds available at the campus.

I think I will have to search all the synonyms of huge as the campus was humongous. It’s a colony actually as 10k + students and all rushing to the classrooms or for their things made the campus look full of life. The campus is 45 kilometers away from Bangalore city in a barren land and there’s nothing besides the campus apart from picturesque scenery. The campus itself is so picturesque that it looks like a holiday destination. The labs were hi-tech, and the entire campus had Wi-Fi facilities. CCTV cameras were installed at all points apart from the smoking areas which were discovered by the students themselves. There were 5-6 canteens and you can get any dish that you feel like eating. From North Indian to Chinese the campus had it all covered. The cricket ground with a backdrop of mountains and lake was one of the best sights of the college. The infrastructure of the college needs no introduction as no Bangalore college infrastructure is close to Acharya’s.

Life at Acharya was one of the best. I am glad I chose this college because some of the experiences like working with young faculty on coding and participating in college fest Acharya Hubba were among the best memories that I made at the University. The University took care of all our needs and had the transportation facility provided for students to visit any area in Bangalore. Whenever I felt like going home, I took the bus and in 3 hours’ time, I was at home. Acharya was thus far the biggest positive of my life and the kind of impact it had left on me will stay with me forever.
