JSPM Narhe Technical Campus B.Tech Review By Sanjay Chavak

Admissions in engineering college is such a race that one has to be at their best to get admissions in the best college. Since my entrance score was not that great, I had to satisfy myself with JSPM Narhe Technical Campus. Look the college is average but from what I know or what I have heard even the top colleges have some or the other issues about them. Thus in engineering, it all comes down to take admission and study hard on your own. I did exactly that and finally got a good college for my PG as well and somewhere I should credit JSPM for that as well. The college is more of a political connects as political vendetta is discussed more than course syllabus by the students and teachers as well. The education that JSPM College Narhe provided was good enough as I did felt some subjects outdated but the library had all the latest books and journals for referring and that made my work rather easy. Focusing on strength was the best learning at JSPM and coding which was my dream, I became a pro at the UG level because of JSPM.

The attendance of the college hardly matters and most of the students didn’t even bothered attending for months. The college had strict norms but all in papers as nothing was implemented. If I compare the other departments the computer department was better as the facilities and the helping hands provided by the institute were generous. The management never rushed and made sure that we are on time but not by just making the lectures completed. The HOD used to give surprise visit and used to shout on students and faculty both. The irregular students were asked to come to the HOD cabin for formality where he would share his thoughts on the importance of attending lectures and at the end will say that if you still don’t feel like attending, you can ignore coming to classes. The education system was not proper as the rules were different for different students.

Quality 5 on 10 but quantity 20 on 10 as the college had over 30 professors for our department and the same subjects lecture were taken by 3 different professors in the same semester. Some of them were good but most of them were good at giving a pep talk and teaching us the importance of self-study as attending the lectures was not even half the job done. These words came straight from our professors and we knew that it is all about self-study and the faculty hardly played any role apart from giving their full during the practicals.

Below average as Pune being an IT hub one can expect some decent placements but again the college is obsessed with quantity. They tried their best so that maximum students have a job and the placement rate was well above 80%. The average placement is the question though as a CS engineer being offered a job worth 3-3.5 lakhs is a disgrace. The top companies were present but offering peanuts even after such a nice interview was just not acceptable. I denied taking the job even though I had an opportunity to work in one of the topmost IT companies. JSPM Narhe Placements cell again was just interested in numbers rather than getting some quality jobs and many students therefore even denied the placements.

The Narhe campus just has a girl’s hostel and there is no boy’s hostel at the campus. There are two wings of a girl’s hostel that accommodated nearly 600 students. The buildings were a little old and since boys were not allowed inside the wing haven’t seen an inch of the hostel. The face value is not more than 4 out of 10 but still was entirely occupied. The hostel also had a mess facility and also the college canteen served food in the hostel building till late. I had few known in the hostel and per them the hostel was average.

Narhe Technical Campus is newly built and therefore all the facilities one can ask for are there. There is a central studio at the institute where all the colleges are connected and then a joint guest lecture or seminars are held. This was innovative as all the classes also have LED’s and sometimes lectures from other colleges were attended through this facility. The sporting facilities at the college are great as there are 2 separate grounds and 2 different gyms for boys and girls. Other than sports ground, there is also a basketball and a lawn tennis court. The college campus has an ICICI Bank ATM as well. The 2 canteens one of which is the cafeteria had some great dishes to offer and the service was super fast. Infrastructure is unquestionable as the group has many more institutes in the city and all of them are high-class.

The college had a Nagpur quota or which was beyond me as 30 percent of students were from Nagpur. They kept bragging about Nagpur and always had issues with Pune. A debate on Nagpur and Pune was an everyday thing and this was perhaps the best time pass at the campus. Like various other colleges, JSPM institute also hosts numerous events and all festivals are also celebrated at the campus. Life at JSP was fun it’s just that the academic part was highly boring.
