Ask anyone in Maharashtra about the best engineering college and in one word the answer that you will get is BVP. The publicity factor is the main reason behind this because the education system and all was something that didn’t impress me at all. I don’t know about backlogs because during my UG I never had any backlogs but at BVP I got KT in a subject for the first time in my life and for the students there it was quite common. Many students even had to repeat the semester and at PG level that was just not acceptable. The college life at Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University was great but not just BVP, Pune colleges, in general, have this culture where a year down is considered quite normal. Hence study as hard as you can if you are in BVDU or any other engineering colleges in Pune because a year down in engineering can’t be a normal thing. BVP campus was so huge that I couldn’t even see the entire campus because I hardly had time to go beyond a certain point. After all, passing with good CGPA made me live my life in a bubble or a zone during my life at BVP.

BVP has a small batch size for M.Tech students and that was good but 8-10 hours of lectures daily was certainly not good. Plus the practicals and the assignments and the 20 days semester break felt like we are out on parole from jail. Seeing similar faces and having no choice but to bond with them was a little harsh initially but from the 3rd semester onwards started enjoying it and made them my life. The academic part was strict as even though it’s a deemed university they don’t believe in making it easy for the students so that they can have a great passing percentage. They rather did the opposite as out of 80-90 from my batch only 30-35 passed the M. Tech in the first attempt.

All old legs and forget about young professors there was not even a single mid-aged professor. They may be highly experienced but the teaching methods were outdated as writing all the things on board and then explaining the same was what we did at the school level. I was unsatisfied and therefore formed a group of students and we studied together after college hours. If any doubts left we asked them and they solved all of that without questioning how the doubt remained when the same has been taught in class twice. So credit to them for sincerity but not for the way they taught us.

Only those who pass in 1st attempt without a backlog get the placements. There were 30-35 in all who passed in 1st attempt but some had backlogs in one or the other semester and that number became half again. I got worried as I was not allowed to sit for the placements in the first round but luckily a 2nd round happened and out of 30-35, 25 got the placements and I was one of them. Now from a batch of 80-90 only 25 got placed and they claim that they have a 100% placement record. How have they calculated was beyond me and trust me if you are lucky enough only then you will get placements. I got anxiety issues because if by chance I haven’t got placed I would have knocked myself over because I had a good enough job after my UG. The placements too were not that impressive as 8-9 LPA was the average for our department.

The college believes in girl power and therefore has as many as 7 girl’s hostel buildings and just 1 boy’s hostel building. The hostel again is common for all the institute and I couldn’t risk that therefore lived in an apartment which was 3 miles from the campus. Many students of BVP stayed there as the hostel has a limited capacity and the policy of mixing students of one stream with another is not my kind. Don’t know much about the hostel life as it was at some distance from the admin block and because I didn’t stayed there I never went there.

A huge campus that was lush green and had some 40-50 buildings made it look like a different own. I was at the Dhanakawadi campus which is the oldest campus of the University. The buildings are old but the facilities that are facilitated are all modern. You have almost all the facilities at the campus like grocery stores, Xerox shop, and coffee shop along with multiple canteens. The labs were big and newly refurbished. BVP has lush green playgrounds and sports was promoted at BVP as the management and the faculty both encouraged the students to try their hands at sports. The infrastructure of BVP’s, Dhanakwadi campus is great and there’s nothing more one can ask for.

Just outside the college, there were many food joints and once the hectic college was over, we used to rush there. The University has a long list of events that have been running for ages. All the students are involved with activities and in inter-college fests, BVP’s team has excelled in sports if not all the competitions. Though PG students have to stay in a zone to make sure they pass on the first attempt the bonding with my batch mates has made us friends for life. 3 years have passed by and still, they are all just a call away.
