ITM Vocational University BBA Review By Manoj Vasava

Being from Vadodara one thing that hurts me the most is that many B-grade Universities have come up in and around the city. My parent's adamant nature of not letting me go outside made me join ITM Vocational University. My dad called them once for the admissions and they sent their team to my home and started selling the University by showing all the pluses that it has. My parents were impressed by the features that their product had and finally I joined the college by scoring 57% in HSC. This shows that the college doesn’t have any criteria for admission but they search for the students to get their seats full. Even after trying so hard when they had the capacity of 240 students, they could only manage 150-160. Moving on to the facilities at the University, they were good or rather impressive. The University was 15kms from my place but luckily the University has a bus service that picks and drops students from any corner of the city and that is how I used to travel to the college. However, when I compare it with other colleges in my city, ITMVU is still better than those.

The course is fresh and has subjects that were uncommon till then. The project work and the assignment at first started making me feel good. Once we passed the second semester the irregularities started coming into play as the University will have a full week of seminars and PR programs to advertise their universities. We were asked to wear formals as many people are coming to visit the University. All this hampered our studies and when asked about the same to the management they said don’t worry you are not going to fail. The University is relatively new and if you are a part of the University just solve the last 3 years' question papers and you will not just pass but will score well at the finals.

The faculty was so young that if they came in casuals it was difficult to figure out whether they are teachers or students. The University hired MBA students who may have just started their job but had 0 experience in teaching. All the experience that they had was of 2-3 years of teaching at ITM. Being MBA students they knew the entire syllabus but explaining them to the students is another thing. Like they say that the best players have not made it to the top coaches even the best MBA students hired by them are definitely not the best teachers and this is where the University scores a big zero.

We had an internship program at the big industries in Vadodara. Chirayu Amin, I am sure has funded this college because a pharma giant will never hire BBA students but almost all of us got the internship there. During final placements, though Alembic was nowhere to be seen and the insurance and banking companies offered us venue marketing jobs. Venue marketing was the first time I heard and when I enquired about that I came to knew that venue marketing means we will have to travel from one place to another to sell banking and insurance products. These were the kind of jobs that we were offered and the companies were ready to hire maximum students but the students themselves were denied and at the end of the day 30-40 out of the batch of 150-160 took up those jobs.

The campus only has a girl's hostel as the boy's hostel is at Ajwa road. Like the University couldn’t fill the educational seats the hostel too was half empty. At least the girl's hostel was because I had some female friends who clearly said all the rooms on the floor are not occupied and the vacant rooms have been turned into chit-chat rooms. The hostel has some timing issues like 8 pm and all and the dinner is served around 7 pm. I cared less because I was anyways not going to stay at the hostel and the boy's hostel was anyways not inside the campus.

There are 2 blocks in all whereas the one is the main building that had lecture halls of all the streams that are running in the University and the next block had AV rooms and engineering labs. The University didn’t start long back and therefore they have kept in check that the amenities are latest and one can’t question that because the labs were fully furnished and so were the classrooms. The University has a huge playground and sporting activities and competitions were organized every weekend at the University. The infrastructure was nothing exceptional but as I said it was newly built and all that they have is as per current standards.

From the final semester, all the students started making excuses that we have CAT classes and the University allowed us to skip the lectures as it is important for the future. The University means knew that they can’t make students future and so better let them go. None of the students in my batch had scored over 70% in HSC during a time where the great colleges have an entrance for BBA or have admission criteria. Mostly spoiled brats joined the college who would even smoke in the bus and when I complained to the management about that they started coming on their own vehicles. I would never recommend anyone join this University as it has no criteria for admissions.
