Sirsa is a town city in Haryana and CDLU is one of the landmarks here. The University is located at Bypass and I had to travel 10 kilometers to reach the University. Attendance is not that strict and it’s easy to pass at the University as the scoring is quite generous. The reason why I said average is because if you check the NAAC credits, it has awarded the B grade to the University. Chaudhary Devi Lal University claims that it is an A grade University but in reality, it’s not. However, it does provide average academics with good extra-curricular activities. Thus, life at the university was good and it has that vibes that made all of us go to the University daily. I made friends and groups are quite prominent here and our group was rocking as we had dancers, actors, and sportsmen in our group. I participated in the University events all 3 years and won prizes. The celebrations at the campus were amazing and every festival and event were celebrated. Students though type cast one other and being a part of somebody else’s success can’t be found at CDLU University.
Since it’s a deemed University the academics will hardly make or affect anybody’s future here. I did BCA and it was divided into 6 semesters. The books were relevant to what a BCA student should learn and know. The theory and practical have almost a similar weightage and the teaching quality was good. There was nothing new or exceptional about academics that I think is worthy of mentioning.
There were 7-8 permanent faculty while 4-5 were those who came through approach or link and left the University equally fast. No matter what source you apply to become a professor at the University but students had a complaint cell and a common complaint there and the professors were fired. Some students also did unfair with some of the new faculty but this way students had that extra power. The permanent faculty were fixed and were good at teaching. The industrial demand and the rising IT network was something that only books couldn’t teach us and therefore the faculty brought with them some journals and paper cuttings to show us what’s new in the world of computers.
Below-average and I think I am being generous because hardly any training or efforts were made by the placement cell which existed in the University for no reason. As a BCA graduate, a student will expect the job as a web designer, software developer, or computer programmer. However, the kind of jobs offered were of a software tester or a system manager. These jobs were also offered to very few of us and out of 180 students that BCA departments had not more than 30 were offered the jobs. Capgemini and HCL were among the companies that attended the campus placement season and in 3-4 LPA they got what they wanted. The numbers were below average but the University celebrated it as if they have won the world cup. They were lucky that placement week was in February 2020 because if it was in March, the University wouldn’t have had half the numbers that they had in 2020.
There are 2 boys’ hostel and 3 girls hostel at the campus. Construction for a new hostel was carried away, I don’t know which hostel they are planning to add. The Sardar Patel Bhawan boy’s hostel building is what I entered once as my friends stayed there. The hostel doesn’t allow outsider’s entry but if you have built a reputation at the hostel then you can even make your friends stay at the hostel at night. The day I stayed there, I also had food at the mess and don’t mind me but how one can eat half-cooked Rotis and equally pathetic dal. I wish it was a one-day affair because if one has to eat such food daily they will be lying in the hospital. My friends, therefore, had food from outside most of the time because not just they but students, in general, were not satisfied with the kind of food provided at the hostel.
You will feel like you have entered a Rashtrapati Bhavan because you will see India’s flag flying high and the monument and the infrastructure are somewhat similar to that. The University with connection to space is quite big. There is a shopping complex at the university campus. One canteen and one cafeteria that will give you the worst packed food and that too at double the cost. There are over 12 blocks at the campus and all at fairly distant from one another as the University has ample space. The library and the sports ground, and the auditorium are the only 3 facilities common otherwise all the blocks have all their required classes and labs in its building. There is also a health center at the university and has 3 OPD rooms.
Life at the campus was stunning. Being Haryana, open jeeps were the most common sight and luckily one of our friends too had that and I made sure that I go to University with him daily. The University hosts a hell lot of events and the final cultural fest always have some big politician as an attendee. If one has to see the life that is been described in many Punjabi songs then they should come and live at the CDLU campus for few days.
