Review of Future Institute of Engineering and Management, Kolkata

Overall Rating
Initially, I chose this institution as it promised many things, among them was specialisation in film studies which made me choose this college among others. If I were you thinking of pursuing media science with interest in film making, I would think again before applying to this college as there are much better colleges in Kolkata itself.
 

Academics Rating
There were not any special entry requirements as such, only that you had to pass the CET exam and there was a personal interview conducted which was pretty easy and straight forward. Passing the entrance exam means you are already 90% in the classroom. The course though, is not at all what it looks from outside. As usual most of the stuff is theory based and not much attention is given to the practical aspect, which is of utmost importance in this particular field.
 

Faculty Rating
One of the rare positive points of this organization is its faculties, at times it felt like some of them were over qualified to be teaching in this institute and guest lecturers were also good. Faculties are good at their particular style of teaching but again, at the end of the day they have to follow the syllabus which was theoretical in most cases. But most of the times, they were approachable and tried their best to help the students.
 

Placement Rating
Yes, there is a Placement Cell in this college, but during our time Covid pandemic happened and pretty much none of the students were placed. The few that were placed got work in below average companies with most being news outlets. Our specialisation subject also changed in final years due to unavailability of faculties and lecturers. Some of the specialisations like Film Studies were scrapped.
 

Hostel Rating
No, residential facilities are not available in the institute but flats, colonies, and shared rooms are available in walking distances from the institution.
 

Infrastructure Rating
Entering the gate, there is securities office on the left, then on the right hand side there are BBA, BMS, and Hotel Management departments there in the building, and on the right side ahead there is a small office where semester fees (for those paying in cheques) are collected. Straight ahead are the engineering department and also, the high school. Each department has their own libraries and practical labs. There are two event halls with the big one situated on the leftmost part of the institution and the small one being in the management department.
 

Campus Rating
Each department has their own fests and recreational activities from time to time. FIEM has an annual fest known as ‘Flames’ where every department students can participate. Participation is also seen from other colleges. Other fests include Kalrav, Inception, etc. Estrella Productions is the college's own production house. Campus life was good including engagement and bonding with other departments, it made us feel like a part of a big family.

    I chose this college because its fees structure is affordable and I've graduated and completed my BCA degree from Future Institute of Engineering and Management. So, it was easier to get familiar with all the faculty members and students. Also it has a good reputation of having 90% placement rate.
