AMC Engineering College B.Tech Review By Eben Thomas

As a computer science student, I could learn a lot of things at the college. Some of the things that include are programming language, operating system, discreet mathematics, software architect, and quantum computation. I also learned on able to work on various platforms be it MAC, Linux, Unix, or Windows. I also solved many real-time problems by writing KLOCs of code. One project that I was assigned during my engineering at AMC was a library management system. Thus, for all this I don’t think, I can thank AMC enough. AMC Engineering College is accredited by NAAC as A category college. The faculty pour their heart out in teaching all the things. The faculty though lacked any form of creative thinking and taught us only what was required. An engineering college boasts events galore while at AMC they were slim to none. The college will only give you industry-based studies as the curriculum is based on that. Thus, for learning the college is great but in regards to a larger picture that is fun quotient or being a part of many other activities just remained a dream.

Academic wise the college remained strict throughout. Even in the last semester I thought, I will chill a bit but it wasn’t meant to be. The research-based learning and attending classes regularly was the system followed quite strictly at the college. Bangalore is known for preparing for higher studies and that is how things proceeded. We were taught in a way that if we aim for higher studies, we are already prepared for that. Academic wise there is hardly any point negative and I would only have positive feedback for the same. One has to be at the study table even after college hours because the kind of projects and work that we were assigned were impossible to complete during college hours.

I would not say that a faculty must know each and everything about the subject they teach. What makes them my favorite was the way they made us study. The things they had some doubts or reservations about, they called and asked other professors to come and take the lecture on their behalf. Thus, such a bold move would have only been possible at AMC. The teachers were also strict and critical of all the projects that we did. It was not easy to get away or making excuses for not having completed the projects on time.

40 plus MNCs has arrived during AMC Engineering College placement season. All the students were given enough training and practice to crack the interviews. It was not that easy for sure because the industry demands from a B.Tech student was quite high and most of us were mostly offered a training role and then if we match the standard that the company wants, they will make us permanent. This was a gamble in a way and many of us even though were offered a job in a range of 4-5LPA even as a trainer decided to go otherwise. Thus, the placements were there for students who were ready to start as a trainer but the proficient roles were not offered to more than 20 students out of a batch of 60.

AMC Men’s hostel was immense. Being a local lad, we couldn’t take the admissions in the hostel but AMC Engineering College Hostel Fees was quite normal. If we calculate the amount that I spent on traveling to the college in a year, I think the hostel would have still been cheaper and time-saving for sure. The surrounding of the hostel and institute overall was superb and that would have made the stay at hostel quite enjoyable. The girl’s hostel was quite small. Less than half the size of the boy’s hostel. The hostel also provided food and all the basic amenities that are required in a student’s room.

The infrastructure was unique as the buildings looked palatial and the architect inside was even unique. I would take the library for example as it was a 2-story building. Both the floors had books and a study area. There are 2 canteens and one of them offers snack items such as pastries, sandwiches, and tea, coffee, etc. The construction was on and from what we learned was that a food chain will be opened there. I haven’t been to college after passing out in 2016 but if it has come that would really help the day scholars who don’t have many options near the college for having food. The college has built up a fitness zone where gym, aerobics, and yoga were taught. The college also has a huge cricket ground but since 2014, KSCA has taken over and college students are not even allowed to go near the pitch. It was a harsh decision because that was the only ground of the college and that was also gone.

There were hardly any activities but one activity that was hosted every year was the annual fest. Since we didn’t have any other activity, we all were mostly excited to be a part of any event and for me, and it was dancing. Students had to do everything on their own from managing choreographers to preparing the skit. It was still ok as we at least got 1 chance to enjoy ourselves at a college that had a rather boring campus life.
