At Rajkot, there are not many good colleges and institutions. If you consider Saurashtra, Marwadi University has the best campus. There are a lot of issues with the university, and I am therefore confused where do I begin? I was an MBA student means management student. This is the right area to start as the college didn’t have any sort of management. Every year, they change the exam format, especially the mid-semester, as they can postpone or cancel exams. They introduced uniforms to look professional, but the design and the quality of uniform were so poor. Most importantly, it didn’t look professional at all. What makes a university? Students, right, but at Marwadi the crowd is pathetic. People speaking in Kathiawadi and no sophisticated crowd will be found here. Saurashtra is known for its poor academics, and this why our parents sent us here to learn some, but at Marwadi, we simply can’t. Faculty, I would say, were knowledgeable, but more than that, what’s essential is delivery. They hardly knew how to do that, and therefore they again pathetic. To give it a feel of a top college and university, there are many clubs in place. Every year students join some or the other club but leave it in a month as they are only for show-off.
Very poor because it feels like we are back at school where the teacher will teach a chapter and after every 5 months, we will have exams. No fun, hardly any practicals, just the books and we had to by heart that because there’s no other option of passing exams here. If we had to this, we could have done it through correspondence, but we came to college to fool us.
They have roped in some of the best, but they are good in knowledge and degrees. Since I have gone out and see how the faculty are, I will have to rate them low because they were pretty below average. Come and read the textbooks, if it was called teaching, anybody could have done that. They had to make us explain and show the practical explanation of that. Nothing like that because they don’t think it’s the way.
Don’t read the site manual or long hoardings in the city of Rajkot. Some companies came, and interviewed us. Most of the students were from the business community, and they hardly cared. Thus, I won't call it lacking, but at Marwadi University, placements for MBA is like a dream. There are no large corporate houses other than top-level jewellers, and for the salesman job, they get B.Com or BBA students at a low salary and therefore MBA from Marwadi will not help you get any job from the campus at least.
There are 2 boys and 1 girls hostel building inside the campus. First of all, why the hell they have built such a large hostel. It can accommodate well over 2k students, which is half the strength of the university. They would have thought that we will not have many outsiders, but most of the students are from Saurashtra, and they have some or other relatives in the city. In areas like Rajkot, hostels are not given preference as many parents are against it. This is harsh but true, and this is the reason half of the hostel is always empty. Otherwise, the hostel is excellent, and the facilities that they have incorporated are world-class.
Have you seen the movie Mohabatein? The campus is primarily inspired by that as if we had mountains at the back and the weather was as good as Switzerland, one would feel they are in Switzerland. The campus is quite big and is connected to state highway. Just beside the university campus, we have farms. Just beside the admin block there’s a small pond that gives you the feel of a river front. It was beautiful, and students spend at least 30 minutes daily sitting beside the pond. A jogging track surrounds the pond and I never used it, but boarders might be using those tracks. The vast amphitheatre with a capacity of 1000 was used for staging the shows. Singers like Armaan Malik and Arijit Singh have performed at the college Amphitheatre. In the Amphitheatre building there is also a food mall and there are 6 outlets in all including a Nescafe cage bar. There are 2 other canteens, and one of them has a separate dining area for boys and girls. The main building had a medical room, and an ambulance was always parked at the campus. The university gate and the entire campus is highly secured. Library card and the college gate are ICT enabled, and therefore carrying them was mandatory to enter the university.
Since the university knows they are academically not that strong, they have made sure to have high-class sporting facilities. The college hosts various other colleges of the region for badminton, cricket, basketball, and softball championships. Other than cricket the university won all the other competitions regularly. Not just boys but girls are also given equal opportunity and they were also given ample time to practice. The annual cultural program was also arranged beautifully, and from dramas to dance, it had everything.
