GLS University BBA Review By Sagar Soni

I was from the first batch of BBA and I hope some trivia about the university which I felt was more than perfect. GLS University is without a doubt one of the finest universities in Ahmedabad. The major reasons being nice faculties, great infrastructure, and comparatively less seats than other universities. The university started in 2015 and straightaway they had an entrance for the admissions. I gave it just for fun but got the invitation letter once the result was announced. I knew most of the students who have appeared for the entrance have made the cut as it was university’s first time but things have changed since then. However, it’s designing and law courses are famous than BBA but in such a short span, the institute has grown quite fast. It has started ranking for its BBA program in Gujarat. Its peers which are operating from a long time such as Nirma University or Anant National University are now at par with GLS. The university’s international immersion program, great teaching facilities & staff, and latest syllabus makes the university one of the best in business.

Since we were the first batch a lot of discipline and strictness was shown. The university was trying to build a reputation and, in the process, became too strict with the academics. The syllabus was extremely great as it was more practical than just theory. Most of the studies were left on students because the explanation was done just once but it was done in such a way that if one pays attention, they will not have to revise it again and again. University is new but has roped in some of the best people to run. Academics have taken this university to new heights in such a short time and if you join this university then be ready to spend 8 hours of rigorous classrooms daily.

It is needless to explain this part because the reason why I have cheered academics is faculty. What a brilliant one and were so knowledgeable that you may ask them any damn thing and they will know the answer. For those who don't believe me, can try this exercise and will know the answer themselves. Their teaching experience and inputs on making each student dance to their tunes during the classes and practicals looked imposing at times but was done in the best interest of the students.

Being the first batch, the university reputation was at stake. We were promised placements and university did made many top companies come at the campus to check the skills of the students. BBA is not that competitive that it teaches us everything. We knew this once we appeared for the PI round with the companies. That day I made sure, I will do masters and left the placement process in between. Students who applied some of them had jobs from Adani Group, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, Reliance Industries, and Asian Paints among others. Salary offered to BBA students was 25000 per month approx.

Some construction was still on and may be one of the buildings that was getting constructed was of boy’s hostel. The girl’s hostel was ready when I joined the university. The hostel was near the back gate of the university and boys had no access in that area. I had a friend at the hostel, who had a lot of positives to speak about the hostel. From rooms to food, and all the facilities that were provided were absolutely gems. Hostels are common for students of various discipline studying in the university.

The best thing is that GLS university campus is within the city unlike other private universities which are located at the highway. This made commuting quite easy as one can take auto, bus or whatever means they want from any part of the city. Metro work is going on now which started just a year back and hopefully there will be a metro station near the university once the project is completed. The buildings are newly constructed so it gave the feeling of entering a new house. The most unique part of the infrastructure was the classrooms. As it was single benches for each and classrooms had air-conditioned that remained on throughout the day. The computer lab also known as the IT centre was perhaps the best one will see. It was superlative with over 1000 latest computers. The seminar hall was little small but was built in accordance with latest standards. The university has 2 beautiful canteens as one is open which was the busiest of both. The university has left area for sports ground but it’s not fully developed as there was no grass and playing on such field was risky and therefore Volleyball was the most active sport played at the campus.

I was accompanied by some friends at the university but in 3 years at GLS, I made quite a few friends. Spirit of togetherness was always high at the university as every week there were events, functions, talent showcase programs and debate, quiz, or some or the other competitions. The annual function was perhaps the best as participating in that was a whole new experience for me.
