Garden City University BBA Review By Prem Kumar

I will share my experience as I did my graduation from Garden City University Bangalore in 2016. The initial first year was quite embarrassing as I have avoided the stage during my school days. Here I didn't had an option as participating in orientation was more than compulsory over here. Public talk and all is what I learned at the university and had plans to quit studies after graduation. The university gave me confidence in speaking in public and taking a stand, which made me rethink my decision of quitting studies after graduation. The studies were average over here as entertainment and events were given more preference. Some of the faculty were without any knowledge, and that was the day when I learned that all these NAAC rankings are actually paid rankings. If you believe in entertainment and are up for learning, then GCU is as good a university as Christ University or St. Joseph College. The university has a slight reputation among the recruiters, so don't expect excellent placements. For sure, doing BBA from here was fun as I learned many other kinds of stuff.

I did BBA from here, and the university conducts a formal entrance, but in reality, admissions in GCU are always available. BBA is a 3 years course divided in 6 semesters. Each semester we had 6 theory and 2 practical subjects. The course was conducted smoothly as there was never a sense of urgency. The portion if remained uncovered, one doesn't have to worry as that won't come in exams. The projects were given on campus just to shoot and picturize and post them on-site and brochure. In reality, practical numbers were given randomly, and it had nothing to do with any unique talent if you possess.

My experience with them was fairly poor. I don't know what they think of themselves as I have never seen such arrogant people. You can't ask professors for help because they are always too busy and will have some of the other excuses. Some of the professors were from Kerala and they had their way of teaching as they would send the weak students in the last row and keep the intelligent ones in the first. We thought we deserve punishment, but in reality, it was because if intelligent ones ask them a question, they can avoid by asking them two questions. Every time the more competent gang asked them questions, the professors outsmarted them.

Garden City University Placement cell kept BCA, B.Com, BBA students in one pool. Now imagine all three being different courses how can the same company hire three of them. The college brings the companies to the campus just to show them the nice infrastructure and facilities because in terms of knowledge and skills that companies require, students probably had zeros in them. If I am not exaggerating, our BBA batch didn't have a single placement, and we were termed as the worst ever batch of GCU.

There are two boys and four or five girl’s hostels inside the campus. The boy's hostel was called Galaxy Home while the girl's hostel was known as Venus Home, and the sequence were given in A & B. I was a day scholar, and our limit was just till the hostel gate. Garden City University hostels were beautiful and adorable more than that. I knew a few students from both the hostels, and they were gaga over the hostels. From facilities to security, everything was well in place. Some north Indian friends of mine had some problems with food but otherwise though none of the students I knew had any complaints whatsoever with the university's hostels.

Garden City University campus size is big, and the tall buildings didn't eat much area, so there were enough spaces in the campus. The main highlight of the campus was the Lagoon Garden at the center. Just right to the garden was one of the canteens of the college. Just like the name, the entire college was like a garden as it was full of trees and garden. The food court of the campus was enormous as there were 8-10 outlets, and a complete building for the food court was dedicated. Sporting facilities were divided as the open grounds were behind the hostels while just near the university gate, there were 2 basketball courts. There's also a covered grass futsal ground. You must count yourself lucky if you get an opportunity to play because it being a rare sport, most students were seen queuing up for futsal. The university is located in the outer as right next to the university was Volvo plant. The university has incorporated all the facilities to make sure students don't have to step out for anything.

University societies were the talking points as if you do well with your societies; you are destined to get some extra numbers. All students participated in events and college fest as it was a massive learning curve for all. If I leave out the education part, I can't point a single flaw as the university has a lot to offer but studies.
