Guru Kashi University, Bathinda is ICAR accredited

First of all I choose this university because our university is ICAR (Indian Council of Agriculture Research) recognised university. There are only 2 private universities in Punjab that are recognised with ICAR. Our university is one of them. And I would suggest other students that if you just want a degree with ICAR, you should join GKU. My experience at this university, I would say was better one. In the first year of my degree I used to think that why I joined this university but as the time passes my experience begin to change and I found my university to be more interesting if compared to others. Now I’m in the final year of my degree and I think if I can restart my degree and enjoy the moments. My batch is 2021. There are 240 students in my batch from different states of India. Majority of the students of my batch were from southern states like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh. These people are very friendly and interested ones. Like it’s best when you get to know about different cultures and languages of other states. So my overall experience in the university other than academics is very good till now.

The eligibility requirement for B.Sc (Hons.) Agriculture 4 year program is 10+2 with Biology or Mathematics or Agriculture. This course includes major subjects and allied sciences of Agriculture like Agronomy, Entomology, Agriculture Economics, Plant Pathology, Soil Science, Horticulture, Forestry, etc. If you want diversification in scope, you must choose agriculture as a degree program. After the degree we are eligible for applying in IBPS-AFO (Agriculture field officer in Bank), ADO- Agriculture Development Officer, HDO- Horticulture Development Officer, Research, Higher Studies, Food Corporation of India, Cotton Corporation of India, Agricultural Journalism, etc. we can choose any field we want to. This is the best thing about the degree in Agriculture.

Faculty of Agriculture is very cooperative, supportive and enthusiastic. We can interact anytime with them. But most of the staff is not qualified with doctoral degree. They are qualified with master’s degree. But some of them have the best knowledge of the concerned subject. The style of teaching for most of the faculty members is by dictating and reading through notes. Only few of the members teach through presentations and projectors. But they are the best faculty in terms of cooperation.

Our university offers placement rarely. They show in their prospectus that they have 100% placement drive but it’s not true. Sometimes from the whole batch a single student would not get placement. So I would suggest students to prepare themselves for the jobs or higher studies. I myself would go for my higher studies.

Yes we have residential facilities in our university. The hostel life of any institution is considered to be the best especially of boys hostel. The hostel is equipped with solar geyser, Wi-Fi and attached bathroom (in boy’s hostel). But the mess food is not good. It needs improvement. But the hostels are nice in terms of infrastructure.

There are more than 10 colleges in our university which offer more than 50+ programs. Our university is near Talwandi Sabo town so there are very good transport facilities. Some of the classrooms in every college are equipped with projectors. There are no air conditioners in classrooms. Only fans are there. This is big setback in summers. Every building has different structure. Some are square; some rectangular etc. Solar panels are present on every building.

Campus life is above average. There are no clubs and societies. Fest is held annually. The environment is enthusiastic. There are more than 5 canteens in our university. You will get to eat both veg and non veg items. Even South Indian food is also available.
