Dr SN Medical College & Hospital MBBS Review By Swati Punia

I'm a second-year MBBS student at SNMC (Dr. Sampurnanand Medical College) Jodhpur. This college was established in 1965, affiliated with RUHS (Rajasthan University of health and Science), and ranked the top 3rd in Rajasthan after AIIMS and SMS medical college. The admission process is done through neet counseling, as it is a government medical college, so I have to first appear in neet and secure a good rank to get the admission, and with good luck and by the grace of God, I got rank that helped me secure a berth at this college.

I'm pursuing MBBS course, but the college provides several other courses in undergraduate and postgraduate degrees like paramedical courses, physiotherapy, radiology, bachelor and masters in nursing and others. There is another entrance examination for other courses. After entering the college, the academic staff helped do the other formalities of the college, and despite the workload, they were very frank and friendly.

The number of faculties is well more than enough. Some teachers are very well at their profession like I have never met such teachers in my life. But on the other hand, some are horrible too. I never mean to disrespect a teacher, but they just come and go through the slides and never care about the students. It made me sometimes think, why do they even get paid? The other best ones put their hundred percent efforts to make things easier for us with wholesome dedication, although it is not easy to handle 250 students. But they do it very well and encourage us to study hard as it does just not matter of degree; it's a matter of people's lives. We are glad to have them as our professors.

After completing the 4.5 years of course. The one-year internship is mandatory and the stipend is paid up to 17000 as of now, which was earlier lower than this. This stipend is decided as per the government norms. After the internship, we again have to fight for a competitive exam to get a seat in postgraduate.

As I already mention it is a government college, so you can imagine about the condition of hostels. The only thing best about the hostel is it is not too far from the college it hardly takes five to ten minutes to reach the college on walking. It's better if I would not utter a word about the hostel food. The quality and taste of the food they offer are so good. Although the water crisis in the hostel oh my God. The boundation of timings for girls, though we manage it.

However, the college is built so many years ago, and hence the infrastructure was old but looked so royal and given that the new building is also constructed. The lecture theatre is big enough to seat 300 students, as per the attendees are 250 with well aerated and ac facility. There is a massive area in which our college is situated we have a swimming pool, gym, basketball court, football ground, cricket ground, Badminton court and there is no time boundation to play there, you can come and play whenever you wish. It helps us to reduce academic stress. We have separate labs and a library, and a reading room also which is well furnished.

Campus life is fantastic. We have different clubs for different categories like dance, sports, Zumba, literature club, etc. there are lots of activities done and large organized by our seniors. It was awesome, and we enjoyed that to the fullest. We celebrate small things and every festival with full enthusiasm. In addition, we have one big fest named "SPANDAN" every year, but this year it will not happen due to covid, but I hope it happens the next year.
