A wholesome experience at University of Madras, Chennai

Overall Rating
The University of Madras is one of the oldest universities started in India. Having created many scholars and reputed personalities at the global forum. Studying here it adds a prestige in the individual’s life. The connection and networking that we could buildup is huge and have helped us in many aspects. As a matter of its academic excellence and rich history it had significantly contributed to education, research and public service.
 

Academics Rating
There are several courses and programs being offered at the University of Madras, however it is highly noted for its humanities and social science programs. Talking about the academics part, the university offers elective courses which are matter of importance wherein every week Thursday is allotted for electives where the student could choose elective courses from any department from any campus based of his or her interest. This makes the student explore and learn various other subjects apart from their core department.
 

Faculty Rating
There are experienced faculties members at the university. There is permanent and guest faculty as well at the university. The professors are student friendly and are approachable, particularly helpful in guiding, research and academics. But there is also improper remuneration for the guest faculty and due to this many guest faculties’ leaves the university. This issue must be sorted out at the earliest for much more effective faculty participation.
 

Placement Rating
There are few placement opportunities provided by the university.
 

Hostel Rating
Yes, there is a common hostel for all the campus students at Taramani. This is one of the cost efficient hostels in the city. The food is good here. There are 2 sharing room and the basic amenities seams good. But the distance between the class and hostel is around 12 km so that is one of the major challenges being faced by most of the students.
 

Infrastructure Rating
Since this is one of the oldest universities in India, built in 1857, the infrastructure also has its historical legacy so there is no such high tech or polished classrooms and infrastructure. The basic amenities are present however most of the classrooms need to undergo renovation and proper maintenance.
 

Campus Rating
There are 5 campuses for University of Madras they are Chepauk, Marina, Guindy, Taramani and Chetpet. However the Chepauk campus is considered important and acts as the administrative block for the entire university. The campus has a very old library where in there are several old books maintained, the books are really helpful to the students, scholars for reference.
