Fees & Admission Process for Master's at University of Madras

I am from the department of Politics and Public Administration currently pursuing Masters in University of Madras. I genuinely had a great learning experience from the day I stepped into the department. One of my cousins made me choose this University and thankfully, I got an opportunity to pursue in the classic University. It is worth the quality of study and one's development in future. We are provided with Credit Based Choice System (CBCS) which involves, us learning varied subjects through elective courses . On my opinion, it would be the best University among others if one chooses this course.

Since my interest in Civil Service, I chose Public Administration as my core subject. We can enroll through the University website, after completion of Undergraduate during the academic admission. Once the application is submitted, next stage will be an entrance exam with interview, which will be conducted in the respective department. Admission evaluation will include the entrance, interview and cut-off of Undergraduate marks. Since the Postgraduate is a 2-year course, 4 semesters with 4 semester exams are held. To develop skills related to your career and future development, special lectures with different fields of knowledge are given.

The fee structure will be divided into tuition fee and the examination fee. The tuition fee is about Rs. 3,000 per year and the examination fee depends on the subjects registered per semester. The same is followed for second year of course. Special discounts in fee are provided to minority students and scholarships are provided for best academic performers and also for the students of post graduation.

The faculty is well versed, knowledgeable and doctorate holders. They give information about the subject as well as stand as a personal advisor when we seek them. Teaching methods include blackboards, PPT presentations, PDFs , group discussion, seminars, and field visits, which give us knowledge on various platforms. The subject faculties are always open to students for clearing our queries. We have 2 permanent staff and 6 guest lecturers with prominent skills. Teachers often conduct quizzes and mock debates, which makes us inclusive in learning.

Currently, our placement cell is unavailable, still we get placement ideas and links through the Head of The Department, staffs, and also from the alumni. We have not attended any placement arranged by the department, we just get to know the details of the institutes and their way of recruiting.

I am a day scholar, but our university does have hostel facility for the other district or state students. Both boys and girls have separate hostels with separate mess and a shared playground. Hostel fee is annually paid while mess fee structure is monthly. There are certain rules and regulations that are strictly followed by the students of the hostel.

University of Madras has 4 campuses for different fields of subjects. I am in ‘Chepauk’ campus where the infrastructure is ultimately perfect with good view of Senate, Clock Tower and with all the basic facilities inside it. We have a perfect seating garden, canteen, Xerox shop, bank with ATM, a great main library and an all time security at our campus. There is an overseen parking area facility also. We have separate units for NSS and RRC. My favourite place would be the Senate building.

My university days are almost ending, and I had a great time with lots of learning. University is always fun with lots of people rushing for something which makes us feel engaged. We do have celebrations like Pongal, Onam and Holi. Departmental functions like Freshers, Farewell, Special Endowment Lectures, Training Programs, etc. keep happening. I am a member of NSS, with that I have attended many camps, skill development, self-defense programs and training programs which were a value added course to my academics. Fee structure is also feasible. Totally great days in University which I am going to miss soon.
