University Institute of Engineering and Technology B.Tech Review By Nairit Chatterjee

I'm currently an IT Undergrad sophomore from UIET, Panjab University. Talking about the institute, it's pretty decent. You'll hear about many private institutes, but trust me Engineering campus of Panjab University (UIET) is way better than many private institutes. What make this institute stand out from others are highly aspiring students, professors and curriculum. Especially, the surroundings will create a huge impact on you. Students here are mostly into tech domain and they are excelling in their field too. Many students cleared GSOC, LFX etc. as well as there is a great open-source environment here too, where students are contributing their skills to resolve open source issues. Not only in IT field, but also students are interested in Scientific domains and many students are doing their research internship with professors in various domains like Electronics, Electrical, etc. There are clubs for enhancing your debating, marketing, and management skills. One thing which I don't like is the student politics in campus. If you're interested in Politics then it's a very good place for you to excel in your political interests. The placement of the institute is an average and I think in upcoming times, the issue of placement will be resolved. Overall if you are a tech geek, you can definitely go for institute.

There are total 4 courses in UIET. Computer Science & Engineering, Information Technology, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Biotechnology. The curriculum of 1st year is almost same for every branch, but from 2nd year onwards you've to study branch specific topics. You must need a good JEE Mains rank for CSE and IT branch, but with decent rank like above 60k you'll get ECE and all the other ones. I'll prefer to go till ECE only.

The faculties are very good in the institute. All the teachers are well-qualified and have their PhD degrees. Teachers are very co-operative, explain every topic clearly and if you have extra doubt, you are free to visit their personal cabins. You'll be provided notes and pdf of the books. Just make sure about the attendance. They are very strict to attendance. So don't skip classes until it's very urgent.

The placement of the college is decent. It's not too good, not bad. On campus placements are low comparing to IITs and NITs, still students are cracking of campus intervew and getting higher packages. Even some of the students are working in big tech giants and have packages over a crore. So it's totally upto your skills.

There are total 8 boy’s hostels and 10 girl’s hostels in campus. Boy’s hostel from1 to 7 and girl’s hostel from 1 to 7 are located in north campus. Whereas Boy’s hostel 8 and girl’s hostels from 8 to 10 are in south campus near UIET. The north campus hostels have their own advantages like, visiting AC Joshi library, hanging out with friends, etc. However, the hostels are not very good. Whereas the south campus hostels have bigger room, clean and near too institute, but it's separated from the main campus.

There are total 3 academic blocks in the institute, a canteen, a tuck shop and a small Nescafe café where mostly students gather around and enjoy their time with companions. Classrooms of IT, CSE and labs have Air Conditioners (Block 1) but block 2 is non-AC. You'll get your 1st year classes in block 2 but then from 2nd year and onwards you'll have your classes in block 1. The lab and workshops are rich with equipment, and every student can perform their lab work without any interference.

The campus life is decent. There are total two mega events / fest in the institute. The official fest is ‘Goonj’ which is held around March-April, and there is ‘Legacy’ which is held around October end. The fests are good and enjoyable.
