The whole experience was honestly life changing. Your entire thought process changes with your experience from this institute. The faculty, the campus, the place, everything is simply amazing. I would fully recommend anyone who is thinking about joining NIFT Kannur to go ahead without any doubts because this institute has changed my life.

You have to clear an entrance exam to get into NIFT. It is an all India entrance. There will be two stages in the entrance test. One will be around December-January. It will be a combination of MCQ and some sketching questions. If you have cleared that exam, the selected candidates move to the next stage. This stage is more of hands on test, where you will be provided with materials and you have to make a product/ design according to the given specifications. It is a creatively challenging process. Once you clear that, there will be a counseling process. You will place in different campuses according to your rank. There are a couple of design courses in NIFT - Fashion Communication, Fashion Design, Knitwear Design, Accessory Design, Leather Design, Textile Design and Fashion Technology. In Masters, there is Master in Fashion Management and also Master in Design. Different campuses have different courses but Fashion Design and Fashion Communication courses are available in all NIFT campuses.

The faculty in NIFT Kannur has creative professionals that help and guide you throughout your course. They are very friendly and approachable. You can go to them anytime for guidance. The classes are structured in very exciting and interesting fashion. Since this is a creative course, the classes are more practical sessions than actual classes. You get a lot of hands on practice in class and plenty of guidance from faculty.

There is a campus placement coordinator who handles placement. You can go talk to them anytime for guidance or any assistance. There is a placement process at the end of the course. It happens in different cities and students from all NIFT campuses are clubbed together for placements. The list of companies registered for placements in different cities is posted prior and you can attend the placements that you are interested in. A lot of my friends got placed through campus placements and they all got good packages. The minimum salary package for placement was 6 LPA during my placement. And during your final year you do an internship for your graduation process and most of the students get placed through PPO (Pre placement offer) during their internship period.

There is a girl’s hostel in NIFT Kannur. There is currently no boy’s hostel. There are two hostels for girls with AC and non-AC options. The food in the hostel is also good. However, it might not be to the liking of everyone.

It is a circular campus with 8 floors. There is a basketball court, an amphitheatre, a workshop, and a canteen, apart from the main campus building. Each department has its own floor and its own labs and machines. Since some of the subjects are shared between departments, everyone has access to all floors. Although, you might need special permission to use some labs like the Garment construction lab or the studio for the safekeeping of equipment. All the labs have their own dedicated lab technicians who will help you with any help you might need during the process. So it is not just faculties that you will be learning from.

The events in NIFT Kannur are best. Since the institute is in Kerala, Onam is the biggest event of all. It is mostly organized by students and students usually try to make it the absolute best and grand event. There is a student organized event called Yugam, this is an exclusive NIFT Kannur event. It is a very fun inter-institute event where students from other institute participate. There is usually a concert, a DJ, food, and fashion stalls. Spectrum is also a similar event, all NIFT institutes have spectrum, there are two days to spectrum, the first day is an inter department event where the competition is between the departments and on the second day people from other institutes come and the event is inter institute on the second day. Other than this, there are also DJ nights on every Wednesdays. Almost all the events are celebrated in NIFT Kannur, from Ramzan to Diwali, from Halloween to FIFA day.
