Galgotias University B.Sc Review By Suksham Gupta

I have completed my studies from Galgotias University and overall my experience was quite good. Students from various parts of country as well as foreign countries have resided their education in this university. It is also one of the best universities in Greater Noida with quite a reasonable amount of academic fee which is also one of the main reasons for attraction of students to this university. Admission process in this university becomes quite complicated though since you have to visit Galgotias College for the candidate registration and fees submission while it is not available in university. The major issue though remains is the attendance which is quite strict in college and due to which many students do suffer a lot in case of emergencies too. The management though is quite good and listens to students queries and has a strong case against Bullying as well. The infrastructure though is incomplete in many floors as well. However, even though I had many complaints about my time during my course, I always felt my decision to join Galgotias was worth it due to my friends and faculty.

I joined Galgotias University in September 2015 in B.Sc (H) Forensic Science since I had interest in investigation field. The course consisted of various different subjects of Forensics in every semester and I got to learn a lot. Before joining this university I researched and compared it with many other universities providing the same course and that comparison led me there. There was no entrance exam to join this course and the eligibility was 55% marks in 12th standard in either Medical or Non-Medical field. The reason I joined Galgotias was the reasonable course fee as well as the faculty which I got to meet during the visit before admission. After joining the course I got to experience various fields and with the help of the experienced faculty, I received good education could hope for. The course is very good though from my personal experience I would prefer anyone to not join it in Bachelors but choose forensics in masters since Forensics in Bachelors was not helpful in getting job neither it fits the eligibility of various jobs in India.

The faculty provided for our course during the tenure were more than 10 and every one of them were well educated and experienced and helped students in learning rather than scoring marks which was quite helpful. They were quite supportive throughout and interact well with everyone even after class. The average experience of the faculty of Forensic in Galgotias University was around 3 years in education and every teacher had a minimum qualification of Masters in their respective specializations. Some of them even had PhD’s under their name which helped them teaching students out of the syllabus and solving every query without hesitation.

The placement cell of Galgotias towards our course was quite negligent since we never got enough opportunities regarding our field. They did brought some companies and most of the students attended those interviews and only 2 students of our batch were selected out of 38. It was quite disappointing for us however, we could never hope much in this field as well since there are not many opportunities in India regarding this field. I would not completely blame the placement cell since the Government of India is also to be blamed for this but one could hope that the placement cell could have done better for us.

The hostel of Galgotias University is quite good with a 9-floor building which was in the University campus only and had more than 70 rooms on each floor. However, Girls hostel was not in the university campus but was in Galgotias college campus which was more than 15kms away. In each room, 2 students were provided with an almirah, table, chair, bed and a balcony attached with every room. The hostel also had facilities of game rooms which were under construction in 2018. It also had a common hall where students can gather to watch TV. The hostel also had the facility of Badminton court accessible 24 hours a day. The university canteens are also open till midnight for hostel students. Hostel life was quite interesting in my 2 year stay there. The only thing I disliked being in hostel was the food which was not up to the mark on many days. The bathrooms are also not attached in Boys hostel but were common and quite large. The security in the hostel is also good since no one is allowed to leave the campus premises after midnight without permission.

The total area of Galgotias university was quite large with all the mandatory facilities. The university had a total of 3 buildings named A, B, & C block. Every block has 5 floors with water, and washroom facilities in every working floor of the buildings since the buildings were not complete and were in minor construction. There are a total of 3 grounds among which 2 were allowed to play along with basketball and football court. There are a total of 2 libraries in Block A and B. The canteen area was not quite large and had more than 10 canteens in the campus. The university organizes various programs and workshops as well. However, it also had some drawbacks. Since the building B and C were not complete the water facility on top floors was not good. Medical and emergency support was not quite good in university considering there no emergency qualified doctors or medicines in campus and the nearest hospital was more than 12 kms away. There were certain restrictions on playgrounds which were quite frustrating.

The overall campus life was good considering I had one of the best times of my life in those years with the help of my friends and faculty. I met certain new people of varied cultures from India and outside India. The atmosphere of the campus was quite safe considering what I had heard about Greater Noida in previous years. There are also various clubs that organize certain activities for students of different programs. The university also organizes freshers’ party, farewell party and fest which are celebrated with full energy.
