St. Joseph's College of Engineering and Technology M.Tech Review By Mohammad Kaif

SJCET is not at all good and there a plenty of reasons for that. The teachers and management are too arrogant. I don't remember a single day when the college staff or management talked to me nicely. They instead treated students as if we come from a third-world country. I regret joining this college as better colleges than SJCET were available in my hometown. The second reason would be the worst placements. I don’t think I should mention about the rules and all of the college as you will be scratching your head that is this military school or an engineering college. I always though Kerala produces best engineers and since one of my friends suggested this college to me, I thought I will see a different place along with studies. The place is amazing but the college is pathetic as we could barely move outside the campus as the college kept us occupied for no reasons.

M. Tech tuition fee increased thrice in last 7-8 years. Fees, is still secondary but education wise, the lectures would never end. If they do, we were given so many projects that even after getting back to the hostels, we just kept doing those. If by chance, you haven’t submitted the project on time, you are a gone case and will only receive threats by the time you submit it. One can’t study at gun point as everyone needs a free head space to study.

One thing that we expect from faculty is to appreciate our efforts. If you think that this will happen to you if you work hard, and then let me tell you that at SJCET, even if you try the hardest, it won't happen. As a faculty, it is their responsibility to clear students' concepts. At SJCET, though, you can't even ask a doubt because they will have such lame excuses that after trying a couple of times, you will yourself say, let's chuck it. Most of the teachers used to give elementary questions for practice and just used to teach us the basic concepts of the subjects. They used to set papers as if we were UPSC students during the exams. The toughness level was that high for exams, but when it came to teaching, it was as low as airlines company's share prices during Covid.

Does this term even exist for a college like SJCET? Many companies have already boycotted the institute and therefore at least in our batch, I didn’t see any companies even taking our interview. All we were told was that we have given you virtual office like experience and have prepared you to find a best possible job in market. Luckily the college is a little famous so finding an off-campus job was not tough as otherwise, doing M. Tech and especially after coming so far would have been a waste. Thinking about placements at SJCET is indeed a waste of time, so if you dearly care for placements, please don’t join this college even if you are from the same city or the state.

Inside the campus, there are four hostels. Two boy's hostels and two is girl's hostel. I don't know why but the college has played a partiality card here as the girl's hostel rooms and other facilities are much better than that of boy's hostel. I guess the fees are almost the same, but they get extra bonuses. The hostel was great as cleanliness at the hostels was maintained at all costs. You can keep your belongings in the lock, but the room's extra keys were with the hostel staff, and once we left for the college, the hostel rooms were cleaned daily. The mess was also quite good as the food quality was no less than home-cooked meal. I was never a fan of South Indian food but now have started loving it.

The campus is quite beautiful and also the locality in which the institute is located is one of the best. It is indeed a tourist town. All the buildings at the campuses were built keeping in mind the facilities that can make students' lives easy. There were common rooms with LED TVs as that was the only source of our entertainment. The campus has a nice canteen along with general and medical stores. I would say that the college is well equipped, and rather than spending all its cash here, they should focus on bringing the right people on board.

One will have the worst campus life experience at SJCET. The students face and shoulders were always dropped because not a single day would pass when one doesn’t receive a warning from the faculties or management for breaking or even trying to break one of the rules. If only positive that I can look at it that there are many sporting facilities at the campus and that’s the best hideout because that was the only way we could keep ourself out of other aspects of the campus which were no less than living a life in a jail.
