'IHM' is one of the best Institutes to pursue hotel management. IHM Faridabad may not be the top, but it is one of the tops. I reside in Delhi and like every other, I also tried my best to get IHM PUSA and DIHM but my rank didn't permit me that. The campus is good as there are almost all the facilities that helped us learn and grow in our course. The placements were a little doubtful, but trust me, they have started inching higher. I got placed may not be at an attractive package to blow trumpets for, but getting placed is key because of the versatile nature of the HORECA business. Every year, we see a lot of restaurants open and get closed. The only reason is they don't hire good enough students from a formidable background. This is what our primary learning was because the people who do hotel management can help businesses not with their food technology, but with some business ideas too.

In hotel management, one thinks that we are taught how to cook the whole day. Food processing was my forte and that is what I did. Having said that, we were also taught all the know-how of the business right from QSRs to a 5-star hotel. We had guest rooms as good as five-star hotel rooms to train us. The best kitchen and marketplace to make us learn the procurement part. So from front end to back end, we were taught everything in a simplified manner that studying here never took any pounding.

Faculty is quite good at IHM Faridabad. Along with qualification, almost all of them had decent industry experience. Food production faculties were a little devil as that was the toughest part of our course. If one flaw that I can say is that some faculties left in between, and so chipping and chopping kept on happening for the large part of our course. However, all the replacements that were done were outstanding, but why they didn't last was something I could never understand. They had the strange knack of picking students and giving them the perfect roles. 'Suraj Kund Mela', which is our biggest test, saw all our skills tested because from serving to preparing food and pitching people to come to our stalls, we did it all under the observation of our decorated faculties.

IHM Faridabad has indeed failed to get its students placed in big 5-Star hotels, but trust me: QSRs like Domino's and Burger King are more profitable than them in percentage terms. The scope of growth is always high in such outlets as it's not that we had to work on their outlets, but they do have offices from where things are being controlled. Apart from the kitchen department, as per our specialization, we got backend roles too. Our internship happened at some of the best 5-Star properties of NCR like Radisson Blu, Oberoi Hotels, and ITC. Our batch was placed all in QSRs though with an annual package of 2.5 to 4 lakhs.

I used to travel daily as hostels were only for the ones who had their residence outside NCR. The hostel, anyways, was so small that getting a room there was next to impossible. Many of my friends took a PG close to the College as Faridabad may not be that safe, but the area around College was nothing like that. Interior facilities of the hostel are unknown to me as I have never been there, nor do I know anyone who used to live in the girls or boys hostels for that matter.

The campus is a mid-sized campus with all the adequate facilities. From various kitchens to libraries and classrooms, all were perfect. The classes were the least of all, but trust me; we spent the least time in classes. The playground was big as in every break we saw students picking up cricket bats or football and start playing. There was a small gymnasium, but I don't think other than the hostel students anyone even used that.

I would say a little boring as nothing special happened at the campus and after 5 pm, I hardly stayed at the campus. To stay beyond 7 pm you need to have a valid reason, otherwise, day scholars are not allowed to be at the campus after that. Small activities not related to our courses held at the campus. Off-campus the 'Suraj Kund Mela' was the event for which we were prepared months before it happened. So, that's all about IHM Faridabad as it isn't glamorous, nor does it have DU-like fests to talk about.
