Sri Guru Gobind Singh College M.Sc Review By Meghna Plah

I went to Sri Guru Gobind Singh College because of its good reputation. Another reason was that it was the closest from my home. However, after a week it proved to be better than my expectations. The college is big and clean. Starting from my department that is Physics department, we are provided with 4 labs. We have plenty of apparatus and instruments which means that a particular student can practice on an apparatus without any sharing or group formation, which brings clarity. The teachers are very willing to help. The overall environment is stress-free and positive. The college isn't very strict. You can enter and leave whenever you wish such were good for someone who wants a side hustle. The teachers are also not very strict but they teach well. Attendance isn't a very big deal here. This flexible environment is good as it offers us to discover other things too. In addition, we don't have to buy any book all the books are available in the labs and library. We also have 3 LAs. One for M.Sc 1st year and others for M.Sc 2nd year. Our seniors are also helpful.

To get admission in Sri Guru Gobind Singh College, you don't have to give any entrance test. All you have to do is fill the admission form from the website and you get the call from them after few days. I personally wanted to opt for Physics, as I am good at it and also I like practical. The college helped me understand every concept. We have frequent seminars, presentations, and viva. Research work and projects are assigned timely. About the exams, there is MST during a semester, which is totally based on preparing you for the final semester examination. The final semester exams are of moderate nature. You can score well if you are in touch of syllabus and listen to what the teacher is teaching.

We do have a placement cell. In the beginning of the semester, we are made to sign in to the training and placement cell. They keep our progress and performance in check. In addition, we can go for placements in the last semester. However, the placement rate of this college is not that good. On my personal experience, I would say that they work well for B.Pharm and diploma students but not for the theoretical course. Teachers also make us focus on government exams and government jobs.

Yes, hostels are available here. We have to pay Rs. 80000 for a year. We are provided with 3 meals and 1 supper in the evening along with milk in the morning. The rooms are good and food tastes well. From what we see on internet about hostel food, it is far better than that. Safety is priority and the environment is good.

Sri Guru Gobind Singh College is big. There are different departments on different floors and different buildings or say blocks. For Science, Commerce, Arts and B.Pharm. There is a different building and canteen. It is attached with a school on right, which is its branch, and a girl’s college on the other side, which is also its branch. In addition, every floor has a washroom and water cooler. Washrooms are average. There are good playgrounds, which are enormous. It has a basketball court, volleyball court and tennis court. The only thing I don't like is I have to walk to 4th floor because my department is on the top floor which not that of a big deal. However, on a whole the campus is big and beautiful. We also have a conference hall where many seminars are held. We have good canteen and Nescafe is available here in case you ever want a good coffee or hot chocolate or ice tea.

The campus life is fun and exciting. The crowd is not that amazing I would say. There are many serious students here but only 30%. Rest comes to college to chill and leave. It is not the fault of the college. The teachers are good and that's more important. Clubs are also available here. I went for the innovation club. It is quite passionate for youth fest. I've taken part in the youth fest it is very fun and chill time. The college also begs many positions in the zonal level. Our department also organizes Hackathon, which is another good activity.
