Life at Coimbatore Medical College: Student Experiences and Hostel Facilities

My dream was to become a doctor since childhood, so I joined a group in my school and joined a private institution to crack the NEET UG examination which I finally did with my hard work. Coimbatore medical college is one of the top medical colleges in Tamil Nadu which you can set only by scoring top rank. So, if you want to choose a college with good teaching and fine with other extracurricular activities then you should choose my college.

MBBS comprises totally 19 subjects divided into 4 years in India. If you want to join a medicine course then you must crack the NEET UG exam with top rank in your respective category. Your eligibility is based on your rank in the examination. Neet UG exam is conducted by NTA all over India to make the students understand the subjects rather than reading.

The faculties in Coimbatore Medical College have a vast knowledge and empathy towards the patients. They provide proper guidance throughout your course. They make you understand the subjects with their teachings. Your one-year subject doesn’t repeat in another in which you can get a separate department with respective professors to teach. Academic stress is more in medicine courses compared to other courses so you should choose wisely before entering it.

There are no specific placements in this medical field, but you can work in private hospitals after finishing your course, but you must go through a 1-year internship if you are studying in government medical hospitals to get your degree certificate. The internship period is too hectic with a duration of one year but with only 12 days leave you usually get. If you took the day off more than that you end up working additional days in internship.

Yes, Coimbatore Medical College has the hostel facility run by the student council of final year students, so all our problems sort out by ourselves. You have separate hostels for both boys and girls with separate wardens inside the college campus. There is a restriction for girls’ hostels to roam outside the college after 7:00 in the evening which is not present in boys’ hostels. Hostel days are conducted in the hostel itself yearly.

The campus comprises academic blocks and hostel blocks (separately for boys and girls). The infrastructure is very old since it was built in the 1960s but they have been renovated repeatedly. You have a library inside the campus with all the medicine related books of all authors. You can use it showing your college ID. The campus environment is green with good ventilated classrooms and auditorium for special events. The college has a separate government hospital with good exposure to all outpatients, but the only drawback is the distance between the college and hospital with half an hour travel.

Many cultural events are conducted each year by the students. The events include inter as well as intra college events. They also conduct sports meets each year between all the medical colleges. Most of the events are done by the student council with a separate club in charge to optimize the talents of each student. The classroom strength is around 200 in our college which may be increased to 250 in the future.
