Krishna Engineering College B.Tech Review By Bharti Rana

With very heavy expectations and against my parent’s wishes, I went to Krishna Engineering College Ghaziabad as I scored well in Mains and also cleared the state engineering entrance exams. I was getting better Colleges than KEC for my numbers but wasn’t getting the electronics branch and for me branch mattered more than the College. Always loved the electronic toys that I was gifted by family and friends and ever since, I decided that I will become an electronic engineer one day. I enjoyed it thoroughly in the first three-years but when the real time came for internship and placements, the Covid took over and everything vanished. AKTU has laid down some strict guidelines and therefore, the College had no choice but to follow the instructions, came from the University. The College was safe and clean; the classrooms and labs were well-equipped. Getting students placed is considered here, as a legendary thing and College had done it in the past, but due to Covid, things changed and in act of GOD, no one can blame anyone.

The academic culture here is orthodox and that’s why they encourage growth. A project every year has to be done, otherwise, one can fail because College may still forbid the assignments but not the yearly project. In fact, there were two because one individual and one group project which had to be submitted a month before the final semester. A proper seminar was organized and it was a two-day affair, as it was like, we were pitching for getting funded for our project. All these things instilled a lot of confidence in me, as I wasn’t ingrained with that quality. So, KEC hasn’t helped me academically but on a personal front too.

The faculties were great as nobody can lay an argument on that. Yes, they chased placements more than anything else but due to AKTU rules, they were left with no choice, but to take us on industrial tours every month, and at least have 15-20 lectures in a week, excluding the practicals. AKTU rules were too imposing but KEC faculty never complained about that, as the number of lectures were increased but they cut down the timings of lecture, so in the bargain of more, quality was brought in.

I should rather be talking about placements that happened in 2019 because 2020 and 2021, placements were slim. Due to Covid protocols, the College remained on and off as the College started and then again it went off. No industry people seem interested in coming to the College and therefore, everything happened online. Even the interviews happened online and one would agree that it doesn’t work that way. In 2019, around 80% of students were placed and we were enroute to 100% placements in 2021 but the Covid ruined it all. Our batch was one of the most intelligent batches, as out of 200 students, 150+ have gone to final year with all their backs cleared. If it wasn’t Covid, the placements would have been no short of calling it invincible.

There were one girl's and two boys hostels at the campus. The 12-floor girls hostel was too good as there were dedicated floors that had TVs, Fridge, LED’s and a lot of recreational things. The only issue was that in the first year, compulsory 3-to-4-seater rooms were allotted and from next year, we could take double-seater rooms as no single-seater rooms are provided. The hostel food was average as some days I avoided going to the mess. The only good thing about the mess was that it was one of the cleanest messes that I have seen.

The College area isn’t that big as it’s a dedicated engineering College and not many courses are offered here. There are three-blocks for classes that include the admin block and three-multi-storey buildings which are the hostels. There are staff houses and a building which is close to the ABIII block. The amphitheater was right next to the staff quarters. A small workshop area was built, as it was commonly used by students of all the departments. For all the external workshops and seminars, there was a conference hall and for College events the auditorium with a seating capacity of around 250 students was there at the campus. The delightful ambience of the canteen tempted me to have some time spent over there with my friends.

Our department society was called "V-Logger SOCIETY" and the fest conducted between all the departments here was called ‘Infinito’. So, getting engaged with society and being a part of the College fest were the best part of campus life. Missed the final year when it was almost certain that I was handed over the duties to lead the fest. As they say, if it isn’t in your destiny, you won’t get it.
