MITS Gwalior B.Tech Fee Structure and Scholarships

The overall Institute experience is good. The infrastructure is good. It has both old buildings and a new AI block which is really good. There's not much of a campus life as the campus is not really big and also they don't allow students inside the Institute after 6:00 PM so there's no nightlife. I chose this Institute essentially because this was in my state and I was getting a scholarship. Among all the government Institutes in MP this is one of the top so, I preferred this instead of the top private Institutes. I don't feel that there is a huge difference between this institute and other institutes but if we compare them based on the fact being based in MP then this is one of the top options available. (Except IIT/NIT)

I chose electronics engineering because I am interested in both hardware and software. This course is pretty much split between the hardware and software parts. This gives me opportunities in both the domains. The eligibility criteria in the Institute are simple: You have to go through the MPDTE counseling, and you should have a valid rank in JEE with average marks in 12th standard. The Institute also accepts Institute-level counseling after MPDTE. The admission process in Institute is smooth. There's no necessity for you to bring your parents and pretty much you can do everything alone if you know how to ask for help (since I did everything alone). The staff is helpful, especially Manish Dixit sir, so don't hesitate to ask for help. In a year, we have two semesters and in each semester we have three main exams with a practical exam. Now among these three exams we have Mid-semester, end-semester exam. Preparing for these exams won't be challenging if you know what is going on in class and prepare two to three days. Before the exams you will be easily able to score between 7 to 8 CGPA.

Fee for B.Tech for all branches and all castes is the same. The fees for 1st year: ₹1,37,650 and then for the rest of the year it's somewhere around ₹1,07,000. There is no discount based on caste but there is a TFW category (Tuition fee waiver) in which your tuition fees are waived off (₹32,500/year). There are mainly two types of scholarships provided, first one is MMVY which is for those who have scored above 85% in 12th and have their AIR in JEE under 1.5 lakh. The other one is MPTAAS which is a caste-based scholarship, in this SC/ST can get 100% scholarship and OBC can get up to ₹30,000/year.

As it is in other Institutes, There are good faculty members and then there are few bad faculties. In my course fortunately I have good faculty members and they understand and are very considerate with attendance and any problem that you face. Few faculty themselves have studied from this Institute, But have done Masters from IIT, IIIT, NIT and all. I feel faculties are capable but they don’t usually take the classes seriously and teach at their full potential. The teacher student ratio is alright. There are few teachers with whom you can bond really good as they are highly approachable and listen you well.

The overall placement is average with the highest package 15 LPA and the lowest at 4 LPA. Few students do crack Google and Microsoft but those are off-campus placements. There is no role of our placement department in their placement. Most of the companies that come in our Institute are those who take new candidates in bulk like TCS, Accenture, etc. There are very few companies that offer 8-12 LPA jobs.

The hostel infrastructure is really good and the rooms are also well equipped. We have four beds and there is a separate study area with four tables confined in a single room. The girls and boys hostels are separate but the features are exactly the same. The quality of mess food is average. The breakfast is really good but the quality of lunch and dinner varies throughout the week. The hostel fees is really expensive if you compare that with SGSIT or JEC Jabalpur colleges which is somewhere around ₹1,09,000/year (they take semester-wise). The hostel is overly restricted as you aren’t allowed to go out after 7 pm and you aren't allowed to roam around after 10 pm in hostel corridors.

There are blocks for almost all departments but some of the blocks are within the same building. The AI department has their own new building that was recently inaugurated. Overall the infrastructure is alright and the campus size is also not bad. The canteen food is ok and cheap so it’s good. The laboratories and labs are there and they are well equipped though the teachers sitting there might not be an expert but again it is manageable. The worst thing about this Institute is its library as it Only consists of curriculum books and nothing extra at all. Even the timings to use the library is not nice. The timing for library is as follows: 11:00 am to 6:00pm. There are specific reserved dates when you can issue books from the library like Monday for SC/ST caste students.

The campus life is alright if you have great friends. Rest The Institute is mostly dominated by the local students and so are frequent fights and conflicts. There are more than 60 clubs in our Institute but most of them aren't consistent. Few of the good clubs are Qurencia, Hindi Samiti, and a few more. As an introvert my experiences are average as I don't interact with many people but most of the Institute crowd are clueless and average.
