CUJ Jammu: From Admission Process to Campus Life

My overall experience was great and memorable. My friends and I made many memories here in Central University of Jammu. It is one of the Central Universities in India, which is newly constructed. It is also located in my hometown, making the transportation easier.

I chose M.Sc in Environmental Sciences. It is a professional course that can be applied in diverse fields across the world and I will motivate also others to join this course across different universities to make our earth more habitable and have a sustainable future. Eligibility for getting admission in this university is to clear CUET exam held by National Testing Agency and also to come under the cutoff list. Process is easy, as you have to submit the documents on the specific date provided by the administration. Exam frequency ranges between 4 to 5 months or can hold as soon as the syllabus is covered. Academics here not only helped me in any real-life challenges but also build up the self-confidence.

Fee for a combined 2 years is about Rs. 3,3000 in total, in which dissertation fee is Rs. 3,000 along with various other charges. Fee concession is given to the students of special categories like single girl child, higher cutoff, and others. Scholarship is also provided and any student can fill the form (if he/she passes certain norm) and get funded by the university.

I was taught by various professors and assistant professors in the university. Most of the faculty members were from different states. They taught us using laptops, PPTs, smart board, etc. problem-solving abilities of the faculty vary in each of them. In our department, 6 to 7 faculties are there in 150 students. My bonding with the faculty was very good.

The placement cell is present in the university. It deals with internships and placements of the students. The work of the placement cell is very crucial as it goes from department to department and makes students aware of the challenges that they will face shortly and tell them how to tackle and approach a company. Packages offered by the recruiters go from 3 to 12 LPA.

Yes, Central University of Jammu offers hostels for both boys and girls. I did not stay in the hostel but I think about 6 boy’s and 2 girl’s hostels were present. The transportation facility also available from the hostel to the university. Mess food was relatable was average as per the standards of central university mess. Hostel fee was about Rs. 1,500 to 2,500. There was rule for boys to come before 10 PM at night and 8 PM for girls. Attendance is taken at every outgoing.

As the university is new, work over the infrastructure is still undergoing. Various buildings and departments are constructed as of now. ISRO and DRDO buildings are also there in the university. The university is spread in about 600 acres of area. However, the university is located in a village area. Medical room is also there to provide treatment along with ambulance service. The library is good but not spacious, sports equipment is present, but the playing field is yet to be constructed. The auditorium and the conference hall are very small. The Abhinav Teela is a small hill present in the university area, which is great for sitting and sunbathing in winters.

Overall, campus life was great and adventurous. The crowd is normal. As the university is new, the student count is around 1200 students. NCC and NSS are there in the university and I was a part-time instructor at the NCC. Marathon is annually organized by the university in the campus. Various festivals such as Holi, Pongal, Onam, and Diwali were celebrated. University also organized multiple events and seminars.
