BIT Durg B.Tech Program Fees and Scholarships

If I had to describe this institute, I'd say it's a good institute. What made me choose Bhilai Institute of Technology was the reputation it holds as it's one of the oldest running institutes in Chhattisgarh. But that's also one of the reasons it lacks some things. The "old" part makes its infrastructure look "little" in comparison to the other newer institutions. Overall, the Academics are good enough and the faculty is supportive enough to get the work done, sometimes even more than that. But it lacks the "institute life" that you'd expect, because the campus is small and you don't get much free time to interact with people, everybody's engaged somewhere every time. Also, I just want to make one thing very clear, this institute must've been very different before COVID Lockdown, because I have heard about many things that don't exist now but did before COVID. Everything stopped after COVID and now they are starting to catch up again.

The reason I had to choose Bhilai Institute of Technology because I didn't clear JEE and my parents told me that this was the one of the best private institutes in CG. They wanted me to stay in Chhattisgarh. The eligibility criteria are simple, you just have to attempt CGPET and for people outside Chhattisgarh you can provide you’re JEE score too. Academics at Bhilai Institute of Technology are complicated. Because earlier this institute was completely autonomous which meant it followed its own syllabus and curriculum. But now it's under CSVTU, and has to follow the old CSVTU syllabus which is not that good. I think that they need to improve the syllabus as per today’s requirements. Also, about the faculty (because they are the ones responsible for teaching the students) is "good enough", they are not bad. They are really supportive and teach as they are supposed to, which gets the work done. As this institute is under CSVTU now, it conducts 2 Class Tests each semester which contain half syllabus of each subject and then there's an end semester. The final result is based on the scores of the end semester CTs, teacher's assessment and practical. This was all about academics.

The fees of B.Tech is almost same of all 4 years i.e. Rs. 40,000 per semester. I don't have the necessary details to break it down but yeah it's around Rs. 40,000 only. You can apply for scholarships if you scored really well in CGPET or any other scholarship that you're eligible for. There’s an office allocated for scholarship work in the institute.

The faculty for B.Tech is well educated and really experienced I must say. They are highly certified to teach their own domains. The general method of teaching in Bhilai Institute of Technology is the classic blackboard method but some newer teachers reach using PPTs using the projector present in each class. This only depends on the teacher to be honest. They are really good at what they do, but keep in mind this doesn't stand true for all of them you know, there's always some exceptions. The faculty is really easy to approach, they always provide the time durations when they're available to talk to. And they don't neglect student's request. They pay attention to each one of them. They don't leave anyone behind. Although, one thing I must add is that the teaching pattern and all the assignments and practical feels like a lot. There are fixed times for classes and labs.

Yes, Bhilai Institute of Technology does have a placement cell and it does help the students in getting placed. It invites different companies so that as many people can get placed but after the COVID lockdown the results have not been great. The average package is somewhere around 3-4 LPA.

Yes, Bhilai Institute of Technology does offer hostel facilities for both boys and girls. The hostel fees are around Rs. 40,000 per semester for both boys and girls. The boy’s hostel for every year is inside the campus itself but the girl’s hostel is around 1 km outside the institute campus. The hostel infrastructure is quite old; although the institution is trying to renovate the buildings. The first year hostel has been renovated and is now "good enough" to live in. There's 24/7 water and electricity as you might expect. Free Wi-Fi too. Mess food is good. Hostel timings for 1st year boys are till 6:30 pm only. Not later than that. And after first year, boys outing are allowed up to 10 PM at night.

The infrastructure of Bhilai Institute of Technology is old. There are just 5 big square buildings and that's it. One Administrative block at the center surrounded by 4 academic blocks. There's also an Auditorium which has the capacity to hold around 700 people at a time. The academic blocks have all laboratories required by the course and well equipped with the required equipment. It also has a new IDEA Lab which has the manufacturing tools, both conventional and new. It has all the tools like 3d printers, laser cutters and the conventional tools like lathe machine, casting tools, welding tools and many more. It has a sports complex containing a cricket pitch, a football ground, basketball court, volleyball court, and cricket nets. There's a badminton hall and a gymnasium too. It is well equipped in terms of sports. But yeah, the academic and hostel infrastructure is quite old and really small.

There's no "institute life" like one would expect from any institute. Although there are clubs present, but they were very inactive since COVID lockdown, they're trying to catch up after so long so they will take time. There are events organised by different clubs, but they're mainly handled by students only. There's one annual fest known as OJAS which was last held in 2024 which was 4 years later from the previous time it was held. Overall, I would say that currently Bhilai Institute of Technology does not have a very engaging and vibrant college life but they are trying to get back to the track.
