SCRIET Meerut: Curriculum, Fees, and Scholarships

Sir Chhotu Ram Institute of Engineering and Technology has an average faculty and fewer placements. I chose this institute as the fees of this institute is very affordable and the hostels are good & affordable. There is no issue of maintaining attendance here, so you can prepare for other competitive exams as well. The institute has affordable fees, good hostels, and average infrastructure. Good to go if you want to pursue your degree and prepare for any exam.

The curriculum is not up to date but it's average. There are no flaws in the curriculum but some subjects feels less interesting. The curriculum includes various languages like Python, Java, C++ and it also teaches you DSA which will help you in future to secure placements. The difficulty level of the exams is moderate and there are 2 sessional and 1 semester exam every semester. The admission can be taken through JEE MAINS ranking or directly if you have contacts. Most preferred exam is JEE Main. The cutoff is not too high and the cutoff for my branch Information Technology last year was around 4 lakh in the open category. The overall admission experience was smooth and the admission was completed through physical reporting.

The year wise tuition fee at SCRIET Meerut is Rs. 85,000 only. The year I took admission it was Rs. 80,000 but it got increased this year. This Rs. 85,000 includes all kinds of tuition fees, caution fees, registration fees and other charges. You can pay the fee in 2 parts like half in 1st sem and other half in the other sem. Half fees is required if you want to fill the semester exam form. The semester exam form costs Rs. 1,760. The fee structure is same for everyone despite being from any category. The scholarship criteria are 75 % attendance and more than 6 CGPA. SC and ST candidates get the highest scholarship that is around Rs. 1,00,000. General EWS candidate gets around Rs. 63,000. OBC candidates get around Rs. 56,000. Jammu and Kashmir minority candidates also get around Rs. 1,00,000 as scholarship.

The number of students in our class is 94 and we have different faculty for different subjects. Currently we have 6 subjects so we have 6 different teachers. The faculties are good but the one I liked the most is Arpit Chhabra Sir. He is a great teacher. There is no faculty that you will not like, it's up to you that you want to study or not. The faculties are all well educated and doctorates but sometimes you just don't understand the topics in class so you have to study by yourself. The exams are moderate and one can pass the exams if you have good knowledge of the topic.

The students become eligible for campus placements in the 7th semester. To be honest not much companies visit our institute. Some companies though come such as TCS, Wipro, Ninja, Tech Dost, etc. I don't know the exact offers made but some students get placed from Sir Chhotu Ram Institute of Engineering and Technology. The highest package being 7 lakh per annum on campus. The average package is 3 lakh per annum. The students make it off campus with one student getting a 22 lakh per annum placement. The placements here are very low and one should go for placement by himself. My plans after getting a degree are to do masters.

The hostel room is a double sharing room with 2 beds, 2 almirah, 2 tables, chairs, 2 fans, and 2 tube lights with one extra holder and 2 hangers for each student. The mess food is not excellent but one can eat. The quality of food is good. In the morning you will get dishes like pohe, macaroni, sandwich, Paratha, etc. In the afternoon and night you will get roti, rice, rajma / khadi / chhole / Dal and a dry vegetable for sure. On Sundays in the afternoon you will get either paneer or chhole bhature but in the night you will get fried rice which are average. The registration process for the hostel is easy. You will have to fill the form on their website and then pay the fees which are around Rs. 40,000 per year including the hostel and mess fees with Rs. 4,000 refundable security. Hostel timings for girls are till 8 pm and for the boys it's 10 pm but you can go outside as there are no restrictions on the boys.

Sir Chhotu Ram Institute of Engineering and Technology has its own gym where students can go irrespective of their course. It is open in the morning as well as in the evening. The institute has its own canteen which is closed from some time but you can go to the university canteen. There are 2 libraries. The SCRIET library remains open till the institute remains open. And the main library opens at 8 AM and closes at 10 PM. There are no annual fests in our institute. Only the orientation program is held every year when the new batch students come. Khelutsav is held in the month of January every year. Garba eve is organised during Navratri. Inter hostel competitions are done every year. Other then these there are smaller events like webinars, seminars etc. The SCRIET library has various books which you can use in your GATE preparation as well as institute exam preparation too. Other than this you can go to the main library of the CCS University to explore from around 53000 books. The classrooms have the normal blackboard but the labs are equipped with computers and are open every day till the institute remains open so I can go and use the computers if they want. There are many sports you can play here. SCRIET has its own cricket ground, basketball court, badminton court and table tennis facility too. The Khel Utsav held every year organises such sports. And a sports complex is also there in the University with a 1600 meter track, a football ground and nets as well.

There are many clubs in our institute such as Cultural Committee, Student Conscious Club, SLC Club and Google Developer Group on campus as well. It is open in the morning as well as in the evening. There are some good hangout places like Portside Cafe, Xero Degrees, PVS Mall, Central Market, etc.
