NEC Nellore: Admission Process, Fees, and Campus Life

I have gotten around 12,4xx rank in EAPCET. I joined Narayana Engineering College, as my parents did not want me to leave my hometown and study in some faraway city. Therefore, I had no option but to join this as this was the only good college nearby. I am currently in my second year at the college, and the overall experience until now has been decent. In the first year of the college, the faculty are mostly friendly, except a few and the subjects are easy. From the second year, the subjects are more deep and related to the branch you originally chose. A potential problem could be that students are not being allowed to exit the campus during college hours, not even during the lunch breaks. 75% attendance is mandatory and if it is below 65%, you will most likely be detained.

I chose Computer Science Engineering since I like tech in general, and technology is the future tomorrow. I applied to this college in the EAPCET counseling, and I got the branch. The admission process is simple, it is aligned with the dates given in the EAPCET schedule. On the day of self-reporting, you go to the college and submit your documents. Exams are conducted very frequently in the college. After admissions are closed and college starts, you will have a few weeks, and then a new exam session will be conducted every 1 to 2 weeks. The questions in the exam most of the time are given from the material provided in the college. This makes the cramming/rote learning culture common. For every exam, you only read from the material provided and try to memories it even if you do not understand it. The syllabus is in accordance with the R23 curriculum in my batch.

As I have already mentioned, I got into the course from the EAPCET counseling round and my fee for the entire year is around Rs. 44,000. That fee goes further down to around Rs 10,000 if you can avail any government scheme like JVD (Jagannana Vidya Deewana). For this fee amounts, it is really worth studying here. For the ones who did not get any seat in EAPCET rounds, you can join through Management Quota, but the fee that way is just too high. It is around 1.0-1.3 Lakh per year excluding one-time donation. Donation is also somewhere around 1.0-1.3 Lakh. For that fee, it is very not worth studying here.

It is a hit or misses with the faculty here. Few of them are good. The good ones have PhDs, and have studied at renowned institutes. Most of the faculty use PPTs to teach the modules/units. Problem-solving abilities of the faculty are okay. There are around 70 students per class, so that is there. Every class is assigned a mentor, from whom you need to go through to attain permission to leave the campus. The mentor will call your parent and then approve you to leave.

Narayana Engineering College has a separate placement cell department, and this is where the most experienced/talented faculties. I have seen a few of them teach and they are truly knowledgeable in their subject. They teach subjects like Aptitude, Reasoning, etc. They help students by giving news about job updates, and notifying and educating them about the in-demand technologies. Placements are usually started with a written test and when it ends, the students are shortlisted and the process continues. MNCs like Accenture visit the college along with mass recruiters like TCS, Wipro, and Infosys for placements. The highest package offered was 12 LPA to a student in the previous year.

The college does not offer any residential facilities on its own officially. However, there are quite a few PGs (paying guest facilities) right outside the campus. In addition, they are separate for boys and girls. They provide food and Wi-Fi facilities. I do not stay at a hostel, so I do not fully know the conditions, but as far as what I have heard from my friends, the experience is decent.

There are 3 blocks on the campus. 1st one is for CSE, CIVIL, MECH, 2nd one is for ECE, EEE, and another one is for MBA/MCA. These are the branches with highest student numbers. Campus size is decently big for the kind of area we live in (towns). Facilities like high-class Auditoriums, Seminar Halls, exist in the college. A huge library also exists on the campus, but most of the books there are old ones (before 2015, etc.). You are not allowed to come to the library during class hours. There is minimal attention towards sports. Some buildings/rooms are old and need renovation.

Overall campus life is decent. The crowd is not too much or uncontrollable for the area. There are many hobby clubs and events being conducted on campus. An event is conducted almost every month (E.g.: Sankranti celebrations, Christmas celebrations). In those events, one can participate in acts like singing, dancing, traditional dress competitions, etc. The college is a co-education based. The biggest fests are usually just Fresher's Day fests. Programmes like Google Developer Groups, etc. are also conducted on campus. One can participate in those and up skill themselves.
