SRM University Vadapalani BBA Review By Ruchitha Devu

Vadapalani is more of a city campus and it is the smallest SRM University campuses. However, the plus point here is that is in central Chennai and both metro and bus station of Vadapalani are close to the college campus. The best part was that it’s a fully air-conditioned campus and that helped us beat the humidity of Chennai which is always hovering around 50 or more. Absolutely zero ragging, as any campus of SRM Vadapalani has no or zero tolerance against it. There are cells which protects students’ right and one complain is all that is required and strict actions will be taken. Faculties were ok but always supported the new ideas as BBA students were welcomed at the incubation centre and all their ideas were listen by the experts. The canteen which was quite mediocre when I joined have been renovated and if you don’t mind, it’s damn good now. Some of the drawbacks are that since the campus is quite small there’s no outdoor activities available at the campus and that is all your sporting and other events were held at KTR campus.

It’s both good and bad as attendance are not mandatory so that was the best. However, the institute hasn’t evolved academically that strong as studies here were like that of any other college. I don’t think the college has to do a great deal as SRM other institutes are one of the finest and all they need is one leaf out of their books. Academics is about setting the tone and this is Vadapalani campus has not hit the right chords. Exams were always on time as every semester there were two exams and both had its own importance. So, one can keep bay from the attendance but can’t have any excuses to skip the mid-terms.

Pretty mediocre but were more open. Even though they had limited teaching acumen but they ensured that students should have their say both on and off the classes. They gave us enough liberty to work with. As they say the faculties are as the weight of resources that they have. The resources were full but some of them lacked experience while some knowledge. So, nature wise and with their relations with the students they were exceptional but with their teaching techniques they weren’t.

One thing guaranteed at SRM is that one will have many shots at placements. Even with BBA many top companies like Infosys, Amazon, HUL, and others have come for placements. The placements were awarded to many but mostly sales and such kind of offers with a salary of not more than 15-20k in hand. So, on paper the placements look good but in reality, BBA just can’t buy the placements that anyone would have dreamt of. Thus, no choice but to purse higher studies as placements were good in terms of percentage but not so good in terms in figures that were offered.

Just two blocks of boy’s hostels were there inside the campus and the girl’s hostel was off-campus. It was so far off that even bus took over 40 minutes to reach hostel to college. The boy’s hostel inside the campus were great as they had a mini playing area inside the hostel, the mess was clean and even the food provided was as good as any restaurants in Chennai. Even the girls which were off-campus were equally beautiful, secured, and full of state-of-the-art furniture inside the room. AC and Non-AC options were available but about hostel life, only the ones who have stayed there can answer.

The campus was small but had some of the most advanced buildings. The classrooms were amazing as there were two boards one smart and traditional blackboard in the classrooms. The benches were of international standard. The computer lab that had around 70 pcs was appropriate to field all the projects that were assigned to us. There was a small discussion rooms and we used to go in small batches for virtual practices of board rooms in large corporate. The auditorium was small as the seating capacity of around 250-300 students was never going to be enough for Vadapalani Campus. So, most of our events were held in KTR campus which was 40kms from our campus. Also, there were no sporting facilities as there was no playground at the campus.

SRM Vadapalani campus maybe small but was no short of fun quotient. We had access to auditoriums at will and one will see practice going on there all around the year. SRM is known for its festival celebrations and the campus was decorated like anything during the events. From tech events to management events to annual fest, the campus hosts most of them at KTR campus and the fests were more of a competition among the students of both the campuses.
