Experience at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Coimbatore: Hostels, Food, and More

In a holistic view Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham is good in all terms like teaching, faculty interaction with the students, different facilities provided, infrastructure, hostel accommodation, mess food, and everything is good. The reason that I choose Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham over other colleges is that they offer different courses compared to any other colleges as far my knowledge. Like they offer courses like Artificial Intelligence and Data Science in Medical Engineering which is a very unusual and new course which is not offered by any other colleges. They have their own curriculum framework which is too good and we can see the curriculum on their official website which is quite transparent. And here in Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, the students belonging to the department of Artificial Intelligence need not to write the end semester, rather they have evaluations based on the project and daily tests that they write which is more like an application based learning rather than just memorizing everything before exams.

I have chosen is Artificial Intelligence and Data Science in Medical Engineering. The reason behind choosing this course is that AI is an emerging and high demanding course right now and in medical engineering it is always an evergreen field and also we will be able to learn both biology and coding at the same time due to this the job opportunities for us also increases. The eligibility for this course is minimum 65% percent in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The admission for this university is through counseling conducted by the university itself or through management quota. There are no end semester exams for our course but however we have daily tests, mid semester exam, continuous project review and final evaluation for the projects. The academics prepares me more for how to face real life situations and how to handle them better and as this is application oriented learning we come to know about the real life scenario at the industry and gain the ability to learn skills that the industry requires.

The fee structure is mainly divided into two: one is for the management quota which is Rs. 6,00,000 per year without hostel fee and the second one is for the counseling. Usually the counseling has three rounds and each round has different fee structure. For the first round it is Rs. 1,50,000 per year without hostel fee and for the second round it is Rs. 2,90,000 per year without hostel and for the third round it is Rs. 4,00,000 per year without hostel. And for hostel we pay Rs. 48,000 and Rs. 58,000 as mess fee. in addition to this, we pay Rs. 10,000, as hostel and academic caution fee which is required to be paid only once.

The faculties at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham are good and friendly. They are approachable at any time and are always ready to teach us and clear our doubt anytime. The faculty members are Ph.D holders and they always clears our doubt. They use virtual boards instead of usual blackboard and use ppt for teaching rather than writing every concept in the board each and every time. They usually share a drive link where they upload the lecture ppt in prior.

Our university has good placements with an average salary of Rs. 35,000 per month and highest salary of 56 lakh per annum. Usually top companies visit our university for the placements like the Microsoft, and many more.

Usually there is a separate hostel for different department students however all the first years stay in the same hostel. The hostel has two, three and four sharing rooms. And the hostel has strict timings that the in time for the hostel is 8:30 PM sharp and also the mess also has timings. The food from the serving area will be taken away once the mess time is over. Also we are not allowed to take our mobile phones with us into the mess and we are not allowed to enter with open hair into the mess. The mess has good food and usually serves a balanced diet with Carbs, protein and fat. The mess doesn’t offer non veg foods. And the curfew timing is that 10 PM after which we are not allowed to roam outside the hostel rooms and are not allowed using our mobile phones outside of our room’s. The hostel fee is Rs. 1, 10,000 per year.

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore campus has one of the best infrastructures compared to any other colleges in the area. The college is situated in Ettimadai with a majestic view of mountains around the campus of 400 acres approximately with full green plants and trees. There are four academic blocks usually called as AB1, AB2, AB3 and AB4. Each block is for students belonging to different departments and also there is a separate block for business students. Usually, there will be maximum 60 students in each class and students belonging to the department of Artificial Intelligence have their own systems which is very useful for them during the computer classes. The labs that they provide was too good that there are separate buildings built for some labs like a separate building for aerospace students and a separate working lab for metallurgy and mechanical students, etc. The University has three canteens and also has many auditorium and conference halls. The food served in canteen is also too good. My favorite thing in college is going to the top floor of AB1 building to see the great view of the infrastructure and to see the majestic mountain view that is sometimes partially covered with fog.

The campus life is so good at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham where you can enjoy a lot with friends and can spend the time happily. Also the campus is so big and has almost everything you need. It also has good climate that makes us feel not to study some times. Also there are so many clubs at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham where one can join and have fun while working in that club. There is no cultural events rather we have a tech festival called ANOKHA which happens for three continuous days and has lots of workshops and activities conducted. Over all my campus life is just good.
