My Perception of Government Law College, Kochi

Overall Rating
The overall college experience is good. Major factor that made me choose Government Law College, Kochi is the legacy of the college and it is near to the High Court of Kerala and the district court. There is this freedom that is not available in any other college. You can sit in classes if you want to, it is not at all compulsory to be present, but you have to maintain a 75% attendance to appear in exams.
 

Academics Rating
I am currently enrolled in B.Com LLB, which is a 5-year course. You need to clear an entrance exam conducted by CEE called Kerala Law Entrance Exam to get admission. It is easy to crack the entrance exam with some coaching or self-study. Then the students who have passed the entrance test are allotted to different law colleges. The exams here are in semester format. Therefore, you will have exams twice a year. Academic culture here is very much none stressing and laid back.
Year wise fee is Rs. 2,500. During the admission, you will have to pay Rs. 6,000 as PTA fund, admission fee, caution deposit, etc. Students who have e-grants do not have to pay any fee.
 

Faculty Rating
The faculty here is well qualified with PhDs. many of them have been teaching for years. Most of them use blackboards for teaching, seminars and group discussions are rare. The teachers are very approachable. There are 30 to 40 teachers for 700 students. Most of the teachers are guest faculty and not permanent faculty. However, it was never an issue. They are well versed in their subjects.
 

Placement Rating
Placement cell is currently not present here.
 

Hostel Rating
Government Law College, Kochi offers hostel facility to students who live really far. For girl’s hostel’ there is an accommodation for 30 people. For boy's hostel, the accommodation is for 50 persons. The mess food is good. I am not staying at the college hostel.
 

Infrastructure Rating
The buildings of the college are in desperate need of maintenance. The campus is small with 3 to 4 buildings of classes. Most of the campus is DA friendly. The classrooms have a capacity to seat 70 to 80 students but need some modern equipment. Library here is in a good condition with many resources. Seminar hall is newly built and outfitted. Canteen here is given to private individuals through tender.
 

Campus Rating
The overall campus life is chill. There is very less stress. The crowd here is moderate. There are only small number of people here. There are student union run clubs like literature club, film club, music club, 6 AM club, etc. There are no extracurricular activities provided by the college. There are a lot of fests that happen throughout the year like arts fest, sports fest, literature fest, and campus Binale. All of these events organized by the student union.

    The college provides a decent campus life; the students get to be a part of India's heritage since this college is 150 years old and has produced a lot of successful alumni. The college has a compulsory 14 day internship which all students must do from the first semester which helps them be ahead and know what the course has to offer and helps them learn skills which will help them in their journey as lawyers....
