NIT Rourkela is a Top Choice for Aspiring Engineers

The college life is good, where we experience many different kinds of environments. It is very nice especially in winter it’s very cold here. The temperature drops to 8-9 degrees which actually feels very nice, but having winter holidays is an advantage, same in summer as it is very hot here in summer it becomes hard to sleep at night due to humidity. As a result we get around 90 days of summer holidays. When it comes to lecturers they teach good enough to write exams, but if we want to learn deeper YouTube is a best option. Lecturers are friendly and interact very nicely. If we have any doubts they even clarify in other hours also in their respective cabins. Sports here is also good as the campus is spread over 1,200 acres making it so convenient to play all kinds of sports which feels so nice. Hostel rooms are ok because it is very old college. They may not seem good but facilities as good enough, mess food is not that good and we need to adjust because every person from the country doesn’t have same taste.

I chose Electronics and Communication Engineering, as I was interested in electronics so I chose this branch. NIT Rourkela is in top three NIT’s. The eligibility requirements are that a person must qualify his/her JEE Main with top most percentile to get admission in this college. Exams here are conducted for 2 months, first comes Mid and then End-sem in four months semester is completed. Exams standard is good enough for a person to get knowledge of the subject.

When it comes to Fee the structure here is Semester wise which is around Rs. 1,00,000 per semester which makes it Rs. 2,00,000 for a year. Yes, scholarships and fee reimbursement is available.

Faculty teaches good but I mostly listen to YouTube classes as I don’t attend classes throughout the semester. Faculty members here are from all over the country which displays its versatility. Faculties can be approached for any kind of doubts which is as good as they give answers for all doubts without any hesitation. Their problem solving ability of faculty is very nice because they instantly give answers to the doubts of students without any reviewing of the answers from any other sources. Teaching methods are different for many, where some teach on the blackboard and some teach using PPT’s. It’s not like the ones who teach from PPT’s don’t teach well. All teach good enough for the exams conducted by college.

Placements here are good as it is one of the top three NITs. Renowned companies which visit our college are Texas, Barclays, Nvedia, Tata, and Microsoft, Sap labs, Intel, Samsung and many other companies. The average package for the placed ones is around 20 lakh per annum.

Yes, college offers residential facilities, which are good enough to get adjusted. Boy’s and girl’s hostels are separate. Mess food is hygienic but has less taste.

Infrastructure is not that advanced as it was a pretty old college. There are around 2 canteens per hostel which is best. Out of these one is day canteen whereas the other is night canteen. It serves many varieties, out of which Maggi and paratha are most sold items. Medical services are free for most of the cases even for small surgeries. Infrastructure is good in classes but not that good in hostels. My favorite place is Arun Tea Stall which is located near a big tree near the library which has very good environment.

Campus life is good and crowd is large but is manageable. Many fests take place in our college one of which is Innovision which is known to be south Asia’s largest fest gathering many talents. There is another fest named Cosmo which is a multi ethnic fest celebrated very nicely for around four days with many varieties of performances. Another fest is Vriddi which is sports fest of NIT Rourkela, to which many colleges from all over Odisha take part.
