GRIET Hyderabad Girls' Hostel Review: Facilities, Fees, and Regulations

The overall experience at Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Patiala was great and skill honing. It is one of the prestigious law institutes in the country provided me the opportunity to gain the integrities of law and its sub-fields comprehensively. Moreover, not just limiting to law, the environment here also helped us gain other practical skills related to our profession, such as how to communicate and argue effectively and write more influentially and academically. Talking of the factors that made me choose this institute, was its nature, as being one of the National Law Universities of the Country, all the law aspirants from India aspires to get admission in one these universities due to their holistic curriculum and increasing placement rate and I was fortunate enough to get in one of these. Additionally, one of the distinctive features of my university that persuaded me to choose it above others was its infrastructure and faculty framework that is much more developed than other NLU's and Law universities.

The course chosen by me is B.A.LL.B (Hons.) and it is a professional integrated course encapsulating both the Bachelor of Arts and Law degree. For admission into this course, the students are required to take a national-level exam known as the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT), which is held once every year and based on that the students are allocated NLUs based on their rank and on the same lines. It also takes students based on their specific score and rank in CLAT. Talking about the course of B.A.LL.B (Hons.), the same course is for 5 years, divided into 10 semesters and under one semester 2 exams of mid sem and end sem are conducted. The academics are good where the subjects taught are not just limited to law but also encapsulate other fields such as History, Political Science, Economics, etc. Other than that, there are extracurricular activities at our university such as moot court competitions, ADR competitions, and essay and judgment writing competitions, which help in gaining both theoretical and practical aspects of Law

The fee structure at our university is dynamic and changes every year but total fee including the mess charge and hostel charge for any year ranges between 2.5 Lakh to 3 Lakh. Moreover, there are scholarships at our university that are provided to various categories of the student such as the national scholarship for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes student. The merit cum scholarship is given to every meritorious student who is not economically well off from every batch. The Medhavi Scholarship is given to meritorious student of Madhya Pradesh.

The faculty members at our university are experienced and have been alumni from universities such as Oxford University, Harvard Law School, Queen Mary University, Leiden University, and various NLU's. The methods of teaching adopted by the faculties are of mixed nature where some prefer PPT, while other prefers journal articles. Moreover, the way of teaching is mixed including the exercises such as classroom debates and discussions. Honestly, some professors are very friendly to students and help them not just academically. Teacher to student is 1:50.

RGNUL, as an NLU, has good statistics at placement, where various top-tier law firms and companies such as Trilegal, AZB, Khaitan&Co., Shardul Amarchand Mangaldaas, TATA, and Ernest&Young approach visit our university for their placement drive, providing handsome packages to the students ranging between 10 Lakh to 18 Lakh PA. Moreover, the placement drive at our university becomes smooth due to the efforts of the placement committee, comprising of both faculties and students, who conduct activities such as day zero, where all the companies and firms are invited onto the campus for the placement.

The hostels are very good, having top-notch facilities, such as AC, automatic lights, water cooler, etc. Hotels and mess are separate for both boys and girls. The mess food is okay but not very good. The hostel rooms are in double occupancy until 3rd year and from 4th year, you are given a single occupancy room. The fee for the hostel for one year is Rs. 40,000, whereas the fee for mess fee for one year is Rs. 48,000. While the timings for the hotels are not very stringent, with in timings until 2:00 AM and from my personal experience the hostels are one of the best places on our campus.

The campus is one of the best NLU campuses in the country, comprising buildings, such as the Academic Block, Administrative Block Hostel Buildings, library, Auditorium, Faculty and Staff Houses, Rose Garden, Playground field, basketball and table tennis court, and the facility area. The campus is located outside the city of Patiala near Sidhuwal village, where the travelling to station and bus can be an issue. The academic block comprises the classes and chambers of the professors. The campus was newly made in 2013, thereby making it modern and good in infrastructure. Moreover, talking about my favorite places at campus, there is GYM in the facility area and in boy's hostel. To take care of your health the RGNUL also promotes various sports activities with lush green grounds and good sports equipment and facilities, where you can pursue your any hobby in sport and in continuance of it.

The overall campus life is pretty good and decent, where the seniors are helpful and caring for you. Moreover, your batch mates who are coming to the university from all over the country help you in experiencing and learning different things in your academic and personal life. there is a sports fest held known as ‘Zelus’ every year where various law universities participate every year in different fields of games. Additionally, there are various clubs/centers at our university dealing with the specific field of law such as the Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution (CADR), Moot Court Committee (MCC), and Centre for Advanced Study in Energy Law (CASEL).
