Affordable Education at JNU Delhi: A Look at the Fee Structure

Jawaharlal Nehru University is an institution of academic excellence. Many of the well renowned scholars, diplomats and even ministers in the government have studied from JNU. Even heads of some other foreign states are JNU alumni. Hence, JNU attracts the crowd from all over India and this is reflected in diversity of students studying here. You will find students from all across the country and even some foreign nations. JNU focus more on academic excellence and this fact distinguish it from other universities. Apart from that, there are lots of personality development sessions, programs, and seminars held time to time to help students to perform their best.

I am currently doing Masters in Political Science and believe me Jawaharlal Nehru University has best center for political Science. Centre for Political Studies (CPS) is known for its expert faculty which include some famous personalities like Prof. Ajay Gudavarthy, Prof. Anupama Roy, Prof. Himanshu Roy, Prof. Harish Wankhede, Prof. Shefali Jha, Prof. Vidhu Verma and some retired faculties like Prof. Zoya Hasan, Prof. Gopal Guru, Prof. Sudha Pai, etc. Admission process to the center is on merit basis through CUET- PG exam. Admission process usually involves verification of documents and the administration is very helpful that you won't face any problem during the process. Students are tested from time to time through various assessment methods like Mid Sem Exams, Presentations, Assignments, Term Papers, Book Reviews, Viva, end Semester Exams, etc. JNU takes the best out of you and makes you competent for future.

Jawaharlal Nehru University is very affordable university with very minimal admission fee of about Rs. 250 only. Subsequent semester fee is only about Rs. 120. Apart from that, university provides free healthcare facilities. Hostel facility is also provided in very minimal price of about Rs. 1000 per semester (Refundable security fee of about Rs. 4500 is also collected). Mess charges are extra. There are various scholarships for needy students like MCM and many more.

Faculty of JNU is excellent and best in the country. You will see your professors writing in newspapers, on TV panels and many books. They are great scholars. They all are doctorate holder. Method of teaching varies from teacher to teacher; mostly it is lectures followed by class discussion. Teacher student ratio is about 1:90 for compulsory courses and 1:40 for optional courses. Faculty members are very helpful in nature and very co-operative. They have great grip over their subjects. They are very hardworking as well as they keep on updating us as well on new trends in the field.

Placement cell is present in many centers of Jawaharlal Nehru University, but unfortunately not in CPS. However, professors help you get opportunities and even university mail informs the students timely about various placement and internship opportunities.

JNU has many hostels. Some hostels are gender exclusive- girls only (like Shipra Hostel) and boys only (like Narmada Hostel). While, some hostels accommodate both girls and boys in separate buildings attached by a common hall like Mahi hostel. Infrastructure of hostels is quite old. But the staff is helpful. The fee of hostel is very minimal about Rs. 1000. Mess food is good and menu keeps on changing as per recommendations of mess committee elected by residents.

Despite old, JNU's infrastructure is well developed (but still needs improvement). It has huge campus with different centers for different subjects and many hostels. Classrooms are big enough and well ventilated. A huge (9 floor) library is in the center of the campus. All centers have seminar halls, auditoriums and canteens. University also has Health center and IT center. However, infrastructure related to washrooms needs much improvement. Apart from that, the campus is lush green and you will encounter a lot of animals like Nilgai and different reptiles.

Campus life in JNU is amazing especially the night life after the classes. Students discuss the national issues at Dhabas, canteens and mess. College crowd is drawn from different states of India and even other nations. You will get a lot of opportunity to interact with new people and new culture. All festivals of all religions are celebrated with great joy. Inclusive nature of the campus allows the development of all. Politics of JNU is very famous throughout the country. You can witness the live political happenings there; some of those leaders would later become ministers.
